Is Mr Farebrother the most perspicacious character in literature?

Who is the most perspicacious character in literature, if not Mr Farebrother, the vicar in Middlemarch. He seems to know everything. He seems to be able to predict everything. He seems to know what is in other people's minds. No wonder he wins at cards.

Mind you, he might have hinted to Lydgate that Rosamund would be a very expensive wife.

According to Aldous Huxley, D.H. Lawrence once said that Balzac was 'a gigantic dwarf', and in a sense the same is true of Dickens.
