    Life's little essentials.

Some years ago, I read that when his house caught fire, Gene Kelly ran back into the burning building to retrieve his toupée.
In a similar situation, which single item would forum members try to save from the flames, assuming that they had already removed their pets and credit cards from danger ?

I have thought about this often. Don't know why. I would have a real problem cause I get very attached to objects. My kitchen table is hard to get these days and I wouldn't want to lose it.

When people ask this question I usually say that I would probably burn inside trying to get my books out.

At the moment I think it would be my computer, not only because it has all my pictures but it also has my thesis and I don't want to lose that.

If my house was on fire and I could only take one thing out, I'd remove the fire...

Well, I suppose I should grab the wife, but assuming the old lady fits in with the "pets" category, then I'll grab my Grandfather's copy of Toilers of the Sea

    Close seconds-
    coin/stamp collection
Chest containing old family photos, memorabilia, etc.
    Ahh! My water colors, sketches

What if a burglar steals it? Or if the computer breaks down? Or if there is actually a fire! I recommend 'cloud computing'. I tend to do everything using Google Docs, and similar cloud software, these days. Let the fire burn on!

windows 8 actually has some cloud thingy, I can save documents on a cloud and access them from any computer, I just don't know how. Maybe I'll try and figure it out and drag my kitchen table out of the fire instead.

My diary. May sound silly but I would like to keep it for the future. Apart from that there is nothing I really value that much in our house that isn't replaceable.

My computer would probably be a prime contender, but I suppose there isn't anything I couldn't replace on it. I think I'd take one of my guitars, probably my MAB2 Aviator, signed by Michael Angelo Batio himself.

I think my watercolors, and pictures of my kids when they were young and cute, and pictures of my family. Otherwise, my stuff is just stuff.

I'm sentimental so I'd probably go for one of the various mementos and souvenirs I have. Either a statuette of a clown my grandmother bought as a gift right before she died, or a small ball I keep because I remember using it to play catch with my grandfather.

The computer can go. It will be an excuse to get a new one. The data can be saved in the cloud as mal4mac recommends. That being said, it would save some time later to rescue the computer and phone.

I use cloud computing, so I wouldn't need to save anything. I'd just turn the cloud on and it would rain and the fire would go out.

My guitar, although I'm not sure why. I can't much play it.
