Party Memorandum: Victory in the war of the Self

    Party Memorandum

    Date: 1M-2/3-62
    Urgency: High
Topic: Victory in the war of the Self

Greetings comrades, as Speaker for the Party I have the honor of informing you as to the latest victory in the continuing war of Unity for the Human species. Over the past decade, the Party Congress, under the supervision of our illustrious First Minister, has embarked on a quest of monumental scope and significance. As you know, our fighting men on the front lines have sacrificed and given their blood so that we may know Unity. Everyday, reports come in speaking of new victories against the African Confederation. New territorial concessions from the Neo-Socialist Block and whole scale retreat from the Pan-Asian Alliance. It is only a matter of time before the world is United under the Party banner.

But how can we achieve true Unification, without the obliteration of the self? A question long asked by Party Philosophers. Unity Media Services and Unity Education Camps can only do so much. To rid ourselves of the selfishness, greed and corruption of our inner minds, has been the challenge of our generation. It was therefore the decision of our steadfast First Minister that the divisions of Unity Medical, Science, and Robotics be themselves united in the task of creating technology to aid us in the war against the self. And at last, victory is within our reach. Yesterday, Party official met to discuss the latest breakthrough.

In quoting Dr. Avery Yoon, head of the research unit,

“There can be no freedom, until the tyranny of objective reality is defeated. In that effort, we have created the Monolith, a program that targets sensory perception and alters it to the will of its programmer. Of what use is the choice between red or blue, when the very question is framed under the dictatorship of objective perception. What if I do not want to choose between this color or that? What if I want to do away the variation of color altogether? What if I want to rid myself of the necessity of that choice? With the Monolith, we are the architects of our own reality. We can make ourselves each feel as much or as little as we would like. Emotions, sight, hearing, taste, touch, smells, all can altered, all can be changed to suit a design of our own making. To rid ourselves of objective truth and replace it with a United Human Reality is the ultimate achievement and we comrades of the Party are seeing it done.”

Our resolute First Minister has instructed the Party Congress to make the Monolith Project a top priority. Though many tests and trials must be completed before the Monolith will be available to the general public, true Unity is now within our grasp. Rejoice Comrades, victory shall be ours.

    Unity Forever!

War of unity. The first paragraph seemed contradictory which made it ironic to say the least. Unless this speech has context, how can it be a story?

a "negative virtue?" That would be a "vice." And my "a vice" is that self-expression can be a goot thing, as long as the emphasis is on the latter, not the former.
