    Prompt: An Alien Love Story

I rediscovered an old work from a creative writing class. The prompt (Which I think our instructor took from the internet) was to write an alien love story. Go ahead and post your own versions, I want to see what other people do with this!

They were there for a very, very long time. Neither of them were sure exactly how long it was, but the two creatures were content to sit quietly, side by side, staring out of the window. There were no clouds, no air to block out the twinkling of the delicate stars.

Karn has visited several stars in his lifetime, but he still sometimes found himself surprised when he was reminded that they were nothing more than balls of flame. They seemed so alive, so beautiful, so-

"Karn?" Kila broke the silence first. Karn realized he had been holding his breath.

    "Yeah?"

"Remember," She paused. "Remember when we were on Earth, remember the people there?"

He chuckled a little. "We were stuck there for a month. How could I not?"

"Remember how when they like each other, the humans would touch each other's mouths together?"

Karn didn't say anything for a short while. "Yeah."

There was a very, very long pause.

"Could we... Try that? Could we try a... a kiss?"

Karn found himself feeling extremely nervous. He wanted to dismiss the tension, make a joke about it or something, but he didn't want to hurt Kila's feelings.

Eventually, he spoke. "Okay." He agreed. "Let's try that."

Slowly, cautiously, awkwardly, they leaned in and kissed each other. It was a small kiss, and it only lasted a second.

Kila spat out a tuft of fur.

"That was disgusting!" She squeaked. "We are never doing that again!"

Karn nodded shyly in agreement. "Humans are weird."

    "How do they stand that?"

    "I don't know."

"We're not telling Dako about this."

    "Agreed."

And the stars twinkled away, laughing at them.

    Alien Love Story

Mister Hydrogen molecule was dinking along over the surface of the barren planet. He’d been dinking along and alone for years.

On the other side of the barren planet, Miss Oxygen was dinking along herself and sick to death of dinking along alone. She’d been doing it for millions of years and was up to her neck with dinking along alone.

Finally, one day, they saw each other somewhere along the equator. They instantly fell in love. Mister Hydrogen was taken head over heels with her vitality.

She had to admit, if even to herself, she could see he had fire, and it beckoned her like a magnet. That’s not to say however, they didn’t have reservations.

“I’m afraid of what might happen if we ‘get together,” she said. “There might be quite an explosion!”

“That’s true, and if we “hooked up” who can tell what would happen, and how long it would last. It might our death! Our relationship might bring the end of us both.”

Alas, the situation seemed hopeless. It was fraught with dangers. It looked ominous for both of them.

That’s why they did it. That’s always why young inexperienced lovers do it. Because there’s no hope, and besides, Romance always comes to the rescue.

Next thing you know they were joined. Together they made H2O.

And they kept making and making and making.

When they got tired of making oceans they made seas. When they grew weary of making seas they made mighty rivers. After that they made waterfalls and tiny streams and rain. And all this time they never let go of each other’s hands. They were truly bonded! When they wanted a romantic sunset they turned to white vapor and clouded the sun making rainbow colors.

Life grew in their seas. After a while it climbed out and onto the land. Plants grew.

All in all it was a great decision after all. To get together and give love a chance is a possibly dangerous thing, but it can have great results.

Note to Steven: Hydrogen and oxygen are atoms, water is a molecule. Also, H2O--threesomes only.

Oh my goodness, you're right. That why I'm not a scientist. It puts a whole different spin on the story. It's a ménage de atoms, not molecules! OMG! What will Mister Wizard say? I'll have to do a re-write. Well, they say writing is a process of discovery!

    How about this?

Two Mister Hydrogen atoms were dinking along over the surface of the barren planet. They'd been dinking along and for years. It was a strain on their nerves, being just alike. They'd been bored for centuries and no more interested in each other as you or I would be interested in our reflection in a mirror.

On the other side of the barren planet, Miss Oxygen Atom was dinking along herself and sick to death of dinking along alone. She’d been doing it for millions of years and was up to her neck with dinking along alone, mile after endless mile. She felt tiny and insignificant and only one small piece of a puzzle who'd never know the complete picture.

Finally, one day, they saw each other somewhere along the equator. They instantly fell in love. The Misters Hydrogen were taken head over heels with her vitality. She was like a breath of fresh air.

She had to admit, if even to herself, she could see they had fire, and looked so buoyant, and it beckoned her like a magnet.

That’s not to say however, they didn’t have reservations.

“I’m afraid of what might happen if we get together,” she said. “There might be quite an explosion!”

“That’s true, and if we “hooked up” who can tell what would happen?," said the first Hydrogen atom.

"And how long it would last?," said the second. "It might our death! Our relationship might bring sudden death to all three.”

Alas, the situation seemed hopeless. It was fraught with dangers. It looked ominous, unreasonable, and unsafe.

That’s why they did it, why they decided to 'hook up'. That’s always why young inexperienced lovers do it. Because there’s no hope, and besides, Romance always comes to the rescue.

Next thing you know they were joined in a magnificent threesome. Together they made H2O.

And they kept making and making and making.

When they got tired of making oceans they made seas. When they grew weary of making seas they made mighty rivers. After that they made waterfalls and tiny streams and rain. And all this time they never let go of each other’s hands. They were truly bonded! When they wanted a romantic sunset they turned to white vapor and danced over the sun making rainbow colors.

Life grew in their seas and spread. After a while it climbed out and onto the land. Plants grew and all things turned green and living.

All in all it was a great decision. To get together, risk everything, and give love a chance is a possibly dangerous thing, but it can have great results.

That's a chemistry love story! All the same, I like it! Especially the cleverness with lines like, "Beckoned her like a magnet" and "They had fire"
