I wrote a poem on a leaf and it blew away...
In my opinion, Winston "uses" Julia as someone to relate to, and there is a sense of hope in him when it comes to her. He has no real emotional attachment to Julia besides the fact that she also rebels against Big Brother. Together, they defy the government by engaging in a sexual relationship, which can be said to have no real emotion behind it. Although they are both against the party, their motives are completely different. Winston rebels in the hope that future generations will live free of the control from the party, while Julia seems to just rebel for the sake of rebelling. I think that their relationship really just comes down to the fact that they both feel the need for someone who understands them.
I think that the way Julia and Winston met was ill-written by Orwell. In a society like Oceania, I don't think anyone would take the chance of being killed by the thought police with such a stupid act which was honestly most likely to fail. Although I suppose if Julia was at the breaking point where all she had left was that small amount of hope for Winston, then maybe it could be believable.
While Orwell had little direct experience of male/female relationships and could be forgiven for having a naive idea, I think it's pretty much what would really happen.
Julia has already decided that her form of rebellion is sex. In that society, where men & women rarely intermingle, how else but the glance of an eye, or the chance of reading an expression would one have?
Go to work, get married, have some kids, pay your taxes, pay your bills, watch your tv, follow fashion, act normal, obey the law and repeat after me: "I am free."

To me, Julia and Winston's "relationship" is a way for Winston to show defiance. As stated before in the book, Winston enjoys defying the Party. It is exhilarating for Winston to know that at any point he coul be caught and killed, plus he enjoys their "activities." So, in my opinion Winston and Julia is an interesting source of fun for Winston that may come to an abrupt end, but I have not finished the book. This is just my thought and prediction on Julia and Winston.
From what i have read so far in the novel, Winston and Julia both have a better understanding of the wrong ways of the government. Both Julia and Winston work for the government and work with the propaganda to brainwash the citizens, so they both know more than they should. Their knowledge brings them close and brings out rebellious acts in both of them, such as having sex and talking where big brother can not hear or see them. I believe that Julia and Winston sneaking around will more than likely result in either vaporization, or some other act of the government to remove their knowledge.
