If you could live by one rule, what would it be?

so you think it's important people learn from their mistakes above all else?

Well yes, even though it's a mildly sarcastic reference to an ancient Hollywood movie title but, on a more serious note, I would replace it with 'The road to hell is paved with good intentions' which, when I was 20 I would have dismissed as a cynical attempt to maintain the status quo; but what does one know at twenty? Now, having learned from that mistake, I can see the truth in the statement.

If you live by one rule, you would die regretting the things you didn't do in following that rule.

Silas, I never thought of you as being so absolutely correct. Can you take it? Maybe LitNet did you a lot of good.

Replace "could have done" with "didn't do" and it would be what you mean. Eliminate the "not." LOL Damned duality!!

I knew what you meant, Silas. It is very difficult to eliminate duality.
I finally came out with a possible one.
By following that one rule you would die regretting not having done the things the rule did not allow.

I like this, and to expand, I find that people who live by one rule in general are fairly intolerant, egotistical, and douchebags in general.

Still we are confronted with a defect. Is it would or could? The fact is that in using could, there is the possibility that you might not care at all about the outcome.

But there is more to this question Hypathia poses. A brain is capable of about one thousand impulses per second. You tell me where you are going to find the person that can hold the one rule without violating it unconsciously. The question is a puton. But she wanted to expand on it. LOL

Interesting. Do you think that unconscious thinking can violate moral doctrine set in place by the conscious?
