    Ode to Saturday Morning

    Ode to Saturday Morning

    Nothing lasts forever,

Not the sun or moon or stars,

And love may last a thousand years,

    And never once be ours.

No thing lasts forever. Quite different than nothing. The latter is only a possibility of an end we cannot know. Until that end occurs, we can't lay claim to knowing but diddly-squad about it.

It's a good one Steven. The last line is a killer.

"But do you really, seriously, Major Scobie," Dr. Sykes asked, "believe in hell?"
    "Oh, yes, I do."
    "In flames and torment?"
"Perhaps not quite that. They tell us it may be a permanent sense of loss."
"That sort of hell wouldn't worry me," Fellowes said.
"Perhaps you've never lost anything of importance," Scobie said.

Did love ever last a thousand years?

    For those who believe,
    no explanation is necessary.
    For those who do not,
    none will suffice.

lol. Does the same principle apply to

And war may last a thousand years and never once be ours?

Nice to see you posting here Steve.

Although I didn't understand how the title fit in this, the rest of it was very nice.

Truly beautiful. Aside from being my favorite active short story writer on LitNet, you might just become my favorite poet, too.

I wrote it on Saturday morning, the poem first, and it didn't have a title! I'll have to think up a title that's more fitting!

Thank you all for commenting, I don't usually do poetry.

Regardless of the title I found it lucid and profound.
