Wow. There are so many talented people here. Oh well, I guess we all have to start somewhere.
Hello, I am an undergraduate student, about to appear for my second year exams. Literature has always been the comforting place that I keep on revisiting time and again. I feel like there is something magical about curling up with a good book and getting lost in its pages. I talk a lot and love asking questions. I tried studying both science and commerce but finally realised that Literature is the thing from me. I am an Indian, from Calcutta actually but I hope to get into Harvard one day and so here's where my saga begins. I have three years before I can apply and I would really appreciate all the help I can get. Forgive me if I go crazy asking for suggestions and questions, but I can't help it. I just don't want to be ordinary.
Let's see, what next? I LOVE cooking. I can spend hours reading up on recipes and techniques. Literature and food really make up most of my interests. I draw sometimes too, mostly comic characters that I like, like Asterix, Getafix etc. In my spare time, I play first person shooters. I am currently trying to learn Spanish ( I must spend more time on it) and will take up French and German next year. This year I turn 21, a milestone coming up. I love listening to music and I'm also the nocturnal kind.
I also sometimes tend to go on blabbing until some one stops me.
I should stop now. I'm looking forward to making new friends and discussing Tennyson, Browning and a whole lot more.

Hello, I've been surfing around here for some time and I finally decided to register and try to be part of this awesome community.
Hm... I should say some things about me. Let's see. I'm a 15 years old girl living in Europe, Romania. I like writing more in English that in my mother tongue (it also applies for my reading preferences). My first experience with the English language was in my childhood when I happened to come by some comic books and manga - i was totally fascinated as a child. Later I began to read books and even started to write myself. Although I have a strong interest in literature, the subjects that I study in school are IT, mathematics and natural science. Anyway, i plan to get a major in literature no matter what. ^^
I started with writing fan fiction then I built up some courage and finished a few short stories, I sincerely can't wait to share them and get some opinions.
My favorite author so far is actually Japanese - Asano Atsuko - and I fallen in love with all her works (the thought of learning Japanese only to understand her work better crossed my mind a few times).
I like listening to music, I don't have many preferences when it comes to genre, but I consider Whitney Huston a great voice and I think Hugh Laurie is as good as a musician as he is an actor. ^^
I'm really into tv series like: Game of Thrones, House, Pillars of the Earth, How i met your mother, Big Bang Theory, Sherlock UK, Suits, Prison Break, Shameless US, Skins UK... and many others.
That's all for now... Nice to meet you! ^^

Heyyy all, just registered to this site, looking forward to interesting discussions here and participating in them. My favorite literature is Sub-continental, may be because I belong to this place and plainly showing favoritism - winks. However, I read O. Henry in my last semester (undergrad lit. student) and quite liked his writing style and the way he puts a twist at the end of his stories, a very pleasing tinge. Am I going into literature talk? Ok, I think only saying Hi would suffice for this thread.
    Cheers!

Hello everyone! I'm new and I've just signed up to share my ideas and to ask you guys for some help and feedback perhaps! I'm thinking that writing alone isn't the best way, so for an audience to read my stuff, then maybe I can improve what I do write!

I look forward to reading everyone's fiction and I hope you enjoy reading mine too!

    Nice to be here.
My Mom died 4 weeks ago and we were best friends AND lived together so I'm feeling rather at odds. Don't know what to do with myself now that I don't have anyone to chat with. We were both avid readers and I'm a writer too. So I thought I would come here and see what everyone else is writing and perhaps have some intelligent conversations. That seems to be lacking at FaceBook. Over at FB it seems like a ticker of information goes by but I never get down to what a person is thinking and feeling. So I'm looking forward to reading what you have to say.
    Love L-L

    New to site

    Hello,

I found this site with a search for online reading clubs. After registering I saw the recommendation to make a first post to introduce yourself & it seemed like a good idea. I live in the USA, work full-time & teach classes part time at the local college.

The books that I like to read are philosophical type novels, Dostoevsky, Hesse, Mann, Simone De Beauvoir, etc. Currently I have just started with "The Idiot". Many times I found myself thinking about an idea or a situation from whatever current book I'm reading at the time and I have thoughts of how nice it would be to discuss that. Being in the technology field I don't find people that share my interest in these books & ideas; and my family is not much interested either. Although there have been ample opportunity to discuss "The Jersey Shore" or "The Kardashians" with my kids but I have managed to resist that temptation! I tease them about how those shows kill brain cells & they tease me about my books being for nerds. Actually they are very smart; I still can’t understand how they can watch this. Maybe it’s like a gory car accident.

I am happy to find the site. Hopefully I would like to find a small group to choose a book to read and discuss from beginning to end.
