    Ships in the Sand

    Ships in the Sand

Do you ever miss our desert ships?
Now that you have become silent
    as a soundless sea
and I am left stranded without sails
    among the shifting sands
    and no where to go.

    It scorches my flesh,
this absence and I yearn for even
the cold distance of your touch
    in place of this abandonment,
where the winds would bury me
and over time only bones will be found
and the dried out old hull in decay.

But if ever you happened to pass
by this way again and you saw,
you would know, you could read the invisible
signs that no one else would understand,
it would be our joke, and silently we would laugh.

    Because you know
the world for us has already changed forever
and there is no going back to a time
    before, we have made impact
    and that cannot be withdrawn,
I will follow you wherever you go.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before. ~ Edgar Allan Poe

The sad tone fits properly with the imaginary of the poem. It is well crafted.

"it scorches my flesh, this absence" and "you could read the invisible signs" and "where the winds would bury me"...are just a few of the gems I enjoyed while reading this. I agree with mojtaba, well crafted indeed.

No thing in life ever goes away except into nothing. Good stuff to ponder. You do a good job at stating a reality that people should keep in the conscious mind even when impossible to ascertain its ways.
