I'm starting to think it is. I was at Starbucks the other day. I saw an old lady getting her coffee from the bar just as I was getting up to use the restroom. After waiting in line forever, I was going back to my seat when I noticed the old lady wandering around the Starbucks looking for a seat. She must have been walking around for at least 5-10 minutes and not one stupid person offered her theirs! I was flabbergasted. I immediately gathered my things and offered her my seat. I lied and said I was on my way out anyway because she felt bad making me move, but it doesn't matter. I gave every person the stink eye on my way out.
I'm also irked by people with their face attached to their phones and don't say thank you when you open the door for them.
Hi blackbird_9 and thank you for posting.
It is incredible how people are becoming insensitive is the word. I agree that manier times I did notice people not being aware of other people around them.
And yes I agree about opening doors to people attached to their phones/mobiles. Not one one acknowledgment it is seriously bad. I guess people are more taken up by speed technology and lack of time. It is a nightmare being out in town centers. Aggression is the new condition nowadays. A modern time condition that is getting worse.

I live in a small student town and have noticed people being really polite. They almost always thank when you open door for them (though I am not usually looking for acknowledgement and wouldn't probably mind even if they did not) but even more so they actually open the door for you too!
But it might be because it's such a small town and the pace of life is rather slow here.
I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew.
