    Best Albums

This is very opinionated. So be it.

I will put a few, and you do what you do.

Blood on the Tracks. Dylan, maybe the best album ever made

    Who's Next.

    Beatles.

Rum Sodomy and the Lash. Pogues

    London Calling. The Clash.

that's a start. Let the fire start.

Dark side of the moon - Pink Floyd (An album so good, I listen to it as one track -alot of people do the same).

    Sgt Pepper - Beatles

Raw Power - Iggy Pop and the Stooges (very raw sounding, but important as it is arguably the first punk album)

"Live in Vegas 2011" - Celine Dion (KIDDING!)

My top 20, in some sort of vague order. The first one is always first, though.

    London Calling by the Clash
    Marquee Moon by Television
    Raw Power by the Stooges
    Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
The American Recordings by Johnny Cash
    The Velvet Underground & Nico
    Horses by Patti Smith
    Astral Weeks by Van Morrison
Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart
Kind of Blue by Miles Davis
    Damaged by Black Flag
After the Gold Rush by Neil Young
    In Utero by Nirvana

Oh, cool, another thread about music where people will name a bunch of music and everyone ignores everyone else. I love these!

I'm not going to name mine, it would take too long, but I will just say all of Richard Thompson's albums.

And this; Marquee Moon by Television- Marquee Moon has one of my favorite guitar solos, I start it as I leave my driveway, and it ends when I pull in to work, a little more than 8 minutes later!

That's probably my favorite guitar track ever. Tom Verlaine had/has a real gift.

There has never been and there will never be an album more perfect than BoT. There is no god so Dylan made a human one out of lyrics and Vestapol tuning. BoT is the be all end all. There is one exception to this: the first unreleased recording of the album before Dylan re-did it. The unreleased album is the god of the god.

Btw, really like Dylan's album BoT. Leo Kottke has a story he tells about meeting Dylan when he was recording the first version of the album in Minneapolis- he had no idea who he had been speaking to until a couple of decades later (Kottke is amazing in his own right! Too much awesomeness!).

It is wonderful, and truly original. I would like to see Tom Verlaine, but I don't know if that would ever happen.

My wife says she heard Kottke tell that story in concert a few times. I tend to doubt it.

And as far as Dylan albums go, I'll stick with Highway 61 Revisited.

All a person needs to be at perfect harmony are the following five eargasm-inducing records

Marvin Gaye - What's Goin' On?
David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
The Beatles - Rubber Soul/The White Album
    Radiohead - In Rainbows
    Ambulance Ltd - Ambulance Ltd

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, just cuz.

21 by Adele are on my list. 21's songs are quite mediocre but Adele's vocal performance on this album is absolutely unbelievable.

Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room by Caro Emerald. Such an amazingly amazing album.

Back to Basics by Christina Aguilera. I'm a huge fan of Christina and a again the vocal performance on this album is inhuman.

I Am ... Sasha Fierce by Beyonce, the best album by my favorite artist.

I'm sure lots of people won't agree with these albums but this is my opinion.
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past - The Great Gatsby

Give every man thine ear, but few thy voice - Polonius (Hamlet)

I loves me some Pink Floyd even though that particular album is overrated beyond belief. I like the Beatles - white album, sgt. Peppers, and revolver. I also like anything by iron maiden (with a slight prejudice against their later stuff) but seventh son of a seventh son was stellar.

And how can I forget.... Nas' Illmatic!

There's a great site here that's based on votes for the best albums of individual years. Blood on the tracks is no 2 album for 1975 behind Floyd's Wish you were here.

Dark side of the Moon was best album of the 70's, but my favorite, Peter Gabriel's eponymous debut, is only something like no 51 in 1977, which I find just plain bizarre!
