The last movie I saw at the cinema was 'The Artist'. I'm glad I went to it at the cinema- it's just one of those movies you need to, I guess. The way the actors used body language and visual cues to communicate their message was wonderful. The music, cinematography and the whole style of the movie was just excellent. I'll give it an 8 out of 10, since the story was a bit too simple and predictable, but I walked out of the cinema with a smile just as I did when I saw the new Muppet movie.

    Dark Shadows

    Dark Shadows

This movie gets a 3/10 for false advertising. The previews led me to believe that this would be some funny, tongue-in-cheek tribute to the Dark Shadows series, but most all of the funny scenes were shown in the previews. The movie itself went on too long, and the only point of it that I could see was to showcase the skills of the make-up artists and all the other artists who were responsible for the way that Johnny Depp's, Eva Greene's and Bella Heathcote's complexions appeared in this movie. While I was not admiring the white skin and the dark eye make-up, I was cringing at the melodrama. And maybe I shouldn't have expected more than the melodrama, given the nature of the series itself, but the previews were misleading. It looked like it might be funny, but it really wasn't at all, and all 3 of my 3/10 rating goes to the overall look of presentataion and look of the film.

Cowboys and Aliens - 7/10. I just can't get behind Harrison Ford playing a jerky guy. Over all fairly entertaining.

I watched Wolverine with my son last night, it was the first time he saw it and it is still good. Not the best X movie but good, my son loved it when he didn't have knives but bones tearing out of his hands. It's Ghostbusters one tonight I think...

Sorry Qimi - meant to respond earlier.

The Thin Red Line is a philosophical war film that intersperses the action with the inner dialogues of the characters including the dead. It's quite an unusual film. it does have lingering shots - some of which are quite beautiful, but then there's the contrast of the war and the horror.

Watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Very good - understated, in that drab 50's British style. 7/10

I will need to watch it again as I was zoning in and out with fatigue, but - you know - when you want to watch something good...

The Avengers. It was AWESOME! I'm a huge comic book nerd, and it was such a perfect movie to feed that part of me. The Amazing Spiderman and The Dark Knight Rises have a lot to compete with, but I'm betting the latter will be even better.

9/10 (minus a point becaus of Scarlett Johansen's horrible, horrible acting)

So I watched this film called 'Zombieland' last night on LoveFilm and it was supposed to be a 'Comedy' and I didn't laugh once, I promise you. I looked at the reviews on the internet this morning and I'm astonished that it has so much critical and commercial praise.

What am I missing? The two female characters were shallow and almost like charicatures, and the same was the case for the male lead (the older one with the guns) blah blah blah that's the same for a lot of films. I couldn't really establish a plot, probably because there were times when the characters ran back into where the zombies were and did some truly rediculous things to get themselves back into trouble, so I couldn't really view it as a survival horror/comedy where they were running for their lives. The violence was just...not really neccessary, though I've seen way worse. It was just odd.

Another thing I noted was that it made fun of zombie-movie cliches (the Rules of survival etc.) and yet consciously used a number of cliches in the plot. The cameo of Bill Murray is sad because he's just a washed up actor now.

I think I watched it hoping it would be a clever and sophisticated comedy with slapstick etc. but the violence was just macabre and not used for any satirical purposes in my opinion. I think it was more like Rob Zombie's House of a 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects, and Natural Born Killers.

Anway, I won't be watching it again for a revised opinion.

I went to the the movies and saw "The Iron Lady" starring Meryl Streep, she played a wonderful role, although I felt the movie dwelled too much on Thatcher's dementian ithat she developed in her later years, other than that 8/10 from me.
Last night I watched another of Streep's movies on DVD "Doubt" 10/10.

    Another Earth

This is a sci-fi film with no name actors about a high school grad who causes a car accident that kills a family, and she tries to atone for the deaths when she gets out of prison. At the time of the event, another planet similar to earth was discovered - in fact it was like a mirror earth - or another earth (which is the name of the movie). It was okay - there were a lot of new agey ideas that found their way into the dialogue. There was mention of Plato's allegory of the cave, questions about the nature of reality etc etc - all woven into the story. I came home from work, I was dead tired, it was on and I watched it.

I watch "Plath" starring Gwyneth Paltrow. She did a good job with Sylvia Plath and so did Daniel Craig as Ted Hughes. 8/10

finished Firefly yesterday and just watched Serenity.

Great movie 9/10 one minus cause it's one of two movies that have a scene that make me very angry at Whedon, saying it would be a huge spoiler but I am pretty sure that if you've seen it you know what I mean.

We watched Midnight in Paris last night. I loved it! It was funny and poignant, and made fun of Hollywood - great music, cast, and just a fun watch. It was nice to watch a film with no violence. And my favorite writer (Fitzgerald) was in it. I will give it a 9
