Just saw Cabin in the woods. oh so very interesting! not as much horror as I expected and more funny than scary. loved the idea behind it and good actors in it. Drew Goddard is a good director, he and Joss Whedon wrote the script together and it has Whedon fingerprints all over it.

Last night we watched "The Iron Lady" which I am giving a 10 due to Maryl Streep's performance. She is truly a wonderful actress. The movie was very good, but she is what kept us riveted to the screen.

I enjoyed The Tourist and Horrible Bosses (saw it twice), but the following stand out in my mind as perhaps not a total waste of time and I'd give them a 10/10. They probably don't deserve that considering the average ratings on IMDb are around 6.

Because of the censorship inherent in political correctness, certain films that were once repeated on some TV stations have now been effectively banned but are still available on YouTube. Apart from some excellent films on YouTube, there are also many that will appeal to the connoisseur of cinematic kitsch. Among these is one that I watched recently called 'Staircase' that concerns two homosexual hairdressers who live above their shop in London. Directed, surprisingly, by Stanley Donen who excelled in musicals such as 'Singing in the Rain', it stars Richard Burton and Rex Harrison who give two of the most camp performances ever to blight the screen. There is no actual storyline but rather a series of vignettes in which both men try scoring points off each other with verbal *****iness.
Although the homosexuality is implied rather than explicitly presented, the 'plot' revolves around a court summons issued to the Rex Harrison character for wearing women's clothes in public and his fear of being exposed as homosexual.
Made in 1969, it seems a fitting end to a decade of silliness when the vox had never been so pop and remains so until this day.
On a scale of 0 - 10 it has gotta be zero.

Currently watching The Curse of the Jade Scorpion, Woody Allen. This is one I have not seen yet and it's a cracker. Classic Woody fun.

He's done some crap films. We were very disappointed with Elf. All the funny bits were in the trailer.
Watched The Thin Red Line - Terence Malick's war film with poetry and philosophy thrown in. There are lots of lingering shots and scenes of soldiers crawling through grass, but I liked it. 8/10
Hey! I quite liked Elf. Still do. The end's a little corny, but I can live with it.
I've never seen The Thin Red Line. I mean, what's it about? I love his other three movies, though.
I watched "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" tonight. It was a pleasand diversion. 7/10

I have just watched 'And God Created Woman' after a break of some time and, given that Brigitte Bardot had remained in the memory as an actress of mainly sexploitation films, was pleasantly surprised at just how good it is.
Performance wise, the film is held together by the German actor Curt Jurgens who speaks remarkably good French and has the gravitas to bring conviction to his role, but Bardot is also very good and in this film at least is one of the most naturally beautiful women in the history of cinema.
Unfortunately it was all downhill from then on when publicity replaced performance in a series of rip-offs in which she was in the same woman between two men scenario with the make-up becoming more liberally applied with successive films.
Roger Vadim directs with great style using the coastal scenery to such effect that the little fishing port of St. Tropez became a major tourist attraction.

This is one Allen movie I didn't like... something about him not being a nervous wreck bugged me...
Just came home from seeing The Avengers, it was so very good! my nerdy brain was working overtime. I went with a friend who hasn't seen many movies like this and knows little about them I pointed out Stan Lee when his regular cameo came and after the movie she asked me 'who is this Stanley?'
Stan Lee!! was my answer.
