I just finished this commission for a partially dissected dragon fetus in a jar. I'm pleased with the look of it.

Thank you very much, Gilliatt! This is the first time I've attempted this sort of project. I really appreciate your feedback. The bubbly substance is a super clear paraffin (wax). I had to let it set in stages while holding the dragon in place. Not burning myself was tricky!
You're right about the wine. Merlot. I like to have a celebratory glass upon completion of a sculpture.
If I had more time, I would make a bunch of these to use in pranks. That's a fantastic idea. It's too bad X Files stopped running. I would beg a steady job from them.

You needn't worry about X Files, though: with work like this you could easily set yourself up as an SFX artist and let the Hollywood studios come to you (that's how most of them do it these days: create effect - will find a use)

Aw. Thank you, Mystyry! That's such a nice thing to say. Working on movies and tv shows is exactly what I want to be doing. It's tough to market myself because I'm somewhat shy, but hopefully someday I'll get the chance to show my work to people who can utilize it for projects like that. I think if I'm persistent it will pay off eventually. If not, I don't mind. I'm enjoying being an artist just for the sake of it. I would love one to bring to the doctors office as a gag. Have it clutched in the busy waiting room, with alot of worried cell phone calls ("yes, he's still moving - looks unhappy. Sure, jar is fine...)

I was so happy with the way the texture mapped the foreground that I didn't notice that it went a lil sloppy on the distant mountain. I'll fix it up in photoshop later.

The other day I was reading a librarian's lament that in the digital age there are less first and second drafts in manuscript because now everyone rewrites on the fly.
There's a novel called Stephen Hero floating about which Joyce told Nora to burn so he could rewrite it as Portrait. Whether deciding not to was the right thing or wrong, it does give a sort of insight into his process for anyone interested.
It made me realise that this is also true of digital art which comes out in its final form, with corrections being made before the final render - there's limited history of the various reconsiderations and transformations, which usually vanish upon exiting the program unless someone is creating something specifically for a tutorial or advertising demonstration.
It's great that you kept the sketches - something I do just in case - but alas that there are too few bits and alternate preliminaries remaining (usually in a difficult to reach folder I've neglected to delete). Maybe I should start zipping them onto a usb stick.
