    Chicago Song ~ David Sanborn

    If you've never heard of David Sanborn,

    (That one minute+ bass introduction is not on the studio song, but it's pretty cool.)

    Wow! When I saw the post I figured that had to be Marcus Miller on bass, but it's a guy named Tom Barney. Never heard of him, but he acquitted himself well. (btw, can't help but add something with Miles Davis--another guy who turned to Marcus often to help shape his sound in the 80's, not to mention Luther Vandross. The clip's from Sanborn's TV show!)

    I always like some Sanborn (despite the scourge of limp and sober money-seeking sax-men that arose in his wake). Here's him doing something lovely but downbeat from this next woman all of this has led my nostalgic wanderings to. Uh, next link is Sade doing a different song ("No Ordinary Love" on my browser now...), sorry for whatever confusion...

    I await the day that I own a hot tub and can enjoy all of this as it was intended to be heard.

    Good stuff Billl. I didn't even pick up that wasn't Marcus on Chicago Song. I didn't notice the credit. Yeah, Barney played pretty good.

    As to Marcus, he's outstanding. I just checked his age and he's just a couple of years older than me. That means he was 22 when he was playing with Miles, Wow. You might like this interview that was beside the Miles video:

    I'm listening to The Smiths. Current song being 'Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others', oh and it's just changed to 'How Soon Is Now?'.
    "...You are not wrong, who deem
    That my days have been a dream;
    Yet if hope has flown away
    In a night, or in a day,
    In a vision, or in none,
    Is it therefore the less gone?..." E. A. Poe

    Thanks for the tip, I did like that--it provides some insight into their relationship, I think (but I still have questions). As you point out, Marcus was so young then, but played such an important role, eventually ending up as producer for a lot of the 80's Miles output. (My favorite is still the Man With The Horn album, though. Worth checking out if you like Marcus Miller.)

    Anyhow, I just switched iTunes to this one after another tune by this band started up on random:

    This put me in the mood for Oasis. 'Don't Go Away' currently playing.
