After an outraged spluttering about this terrible scandal in Spain, I began to wonder what motivations and justifications religious people could have in this case.
1. Was it fear of authority?
2. Was it the presumption and compliance of an authoritarian church with an authoritarian state.
3. Does belief inculcate a more passive attitude to the status quo?
4. Was it the moral high ground assumed over potentially subversive families?
5. Does having a fixed set of beliefs lead to an unquestioning attitude?
I think it is far more complex an answer than - these people are evil, though i consider their actions to be evil. What do you think?
