Graduate School!
This summer, I'm taking stock of grad school options.
I just finished my undergrad sophomore year as a literature major at Patrick Henry College and I'm hoping to follow up on it by doing graduate work in literature written around and during World War I (with an eye to perhaps doing something in Russian later, after I learn the language). I hope, upon completing my grad work, to teach literature at a college or university.
So, I know what I want to study, but the problem is figuring out where to apply. Would those of you with graduate degrees in English be willing to tell me about your experiences in grad school - where you went, what you did, what you liked about it?
I dream of going to Oxford, or somewhere overseas. An Mst in literature and art, and then a DPhil in English 1900-Present
. Of course there are good American universities too.
I'd appreciate any insights you'd care to share with me!
"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."

That sounds like a great plan, I'm doing an MRes in English Victorian Literature at Keele University in England. If you can afford to come over here to study (the fees have just been doubled in price) then I think it will look great on a resume or something.
All I can advise really is to keep trawling websites and see which college/uni stands out to you course wise. I don't know about where you are but here there are many postgrad open days and graduate fairs for you to shop about a bit
hope this helps and all the best with your continuing studies!

Bloody hell, if you can get into the likes of Oxford or Cambridge then take it. Opens doors everywhere.
