    A question about a book

    hey everybody
i have a question about an old story
in the beginning of this year i have started reading a book
only about 10 pages and i stopped, after three or four month
i tried to read this book again but unfortunately i didn't
find the book and i forget totally its title
the only thing i remember is that it is the most old English story
maybe older than Beowulf, and its about an old magician or wise-man
in a village preparing his apprentice to confront an Army or evil threat
please do you have any suggestion

It might be The Sword in the Stone by T. H. White.
