    Attraction

    Again,
    her scream pierces the calm
    and tears the desert
    in shreds.

    She roams torrid stretches,
    urging dust to blind,
    wind to hurl,
    ravens to crush her,

    where his fingers clung,
    briefly resisting the abyss,
before his body hit the rocks
    that surged beneath.

    Holy....cannoli.
That was powerful, striking, and absolutely beautiful. A haunting piece, for sure. You have such beautiful command of your words!

    "Again"?
How can we account for this quirk in the human psyche that finds revisiting the scene of a tragedy so-- as your title suggests--"attractive"? Why do we want to re-live or
recapitulate what causes pain? Is it mere wallowing in pain, or is it a way to come to grips with our grief? Hence,
the national obsession (over in these parts anyway, Bar)
    on this so-called "closure."

We'd have to pore over book after book on psychology to find the answer, yet this very short and succinct piece of verse of yours speaks volumes.

Well, a visceral answer I hear from most people suffering a recent bereavement is 1/they want to go too, 2/suffering kind of gives them a "contact" with the lost ones... but of course, the subject is complex and so very individual for each person.

Thank you Auntie to have stopped here and read this work. Warm regards, Bar

Its tormenting to read, it's such an achievement Bar.

In my own interpretation there is always a great deal of "attraction" for one to go after a lost loved one.

"But do you really, seriously, Major Scobie," Dr. Sykes asked, "believe in hell?"
    "Oh, yes, I do."
    "In flames and torment?"
"Perhaps not quite that. They tell us it may be a permanent sense of loss."
"That sort of hell wouldn't worry me," Fellowes said.
"Perhaps you've never lost anything of importance," Scobie said.

Another: a loss poem. Vivid, scalpel sharp. Stopped my breathing.
