Thought manipulation

The fact of being watched does not cause me any fear as any store you go into now has video monitoring. What does disturb me is the idea of sinister use of thought manipulation, take a real close look at what has happened since september 11. the new agencies and security. Our attitudes are slowly being altered and we don't realize it. Look at advertizing " you can't live without it". "Get it before it is sold out." " To live the good life you need this product." and Etc.<br> In Oregon big brother is alive and well. except his system is flawed. we recently traded a vehicle in for a newer safer vehicle. Just the other day I received in the mail a speeding ticket with a picture showing the car which was traded in two week prior to the speeding ticket. Yes, I can prove the car was sold to the dealership. upon checking I found out that I bear the burden of proof. ( I am guilty till I prove my innocence). So much for the principle of innocent till proven guilty in this great land of the free.<br> Question what you are being told.!<br>

Geeze, you are soo correct. I believe that this nation is no longer what it used to be, as well as becoming what it never could have in those days, it is becoming what it never should have also. My dad is into all of the old books published around 1984 (Brave New World, Darkness at Noon) and he told me to read them. When we discused them he told me how terrified of what had happened in them he was, and I could not see what he meant by that.

It is scary that there is an entire generation, of which I am a part, that views these happenings as normal. Alas for the great country of the United States of America.

Yeh, I recently read Brave New World, and it is scary to see things similar to that book, also. For instance, I quote from our newspaper the other day,

"Sex is the most amazing stress reliever. I actually think it's the best thing for everything! I think it shouldbe be 100 percent par of everyone's life on a day-to-day basis. We'd be a lot happier!" -Cameron Diaz.

Granted, consider the source, but still! Did she not think about this for two seconds? Everyone's life, 100%? All sex, all the time, even for little kids, etc? That's not the country/world I want to live in! What other examples of these kinds of things have you guys noticed?

i had recently posted a thread similar to yours!! society has had a great deal of changes....i am also not of fear of being watched....as long as im not doing anything to cause trouble!! i personally think people should have their privacy others think different!! there are needs for cameras in stores because people cant be trusted!! to add on to something...the cameras in schools are outrageous...is it a sign that kids arent trusted or do they just assume they are going to do something wrong? i dont get the government and the way we think these days!!

If a middle class person would add up all the tax thay pay they would quickly find out they are shelling out more than 50% in taxes, some obvious and some hidden, the only way ths could be accomplished is by Thought Manipulation. Have you ever seen or herd something that is so outragious you ask yourself, how could this be and why dont people rebel against this outrage. This is a small gimps into the reality of mass population manipulation.

I'm sorry hipwr3, but the application of taxes is not a form of thought manipulation - it is just different ways of doing what is nessecary to keep society going. Stealth tax exists because the middle class don't like to face the simple fact that because thay earn more, they need to be taxed more - but governments still need their votes. It's barely comparible to doublethink or newspeak.

Yes Ryan you are close to the truth, And dont forget that new car you just purchased probably has a GPS tracker and a Black box that records your driving habits.

The Taxes are not thought manipulation but thinking its ok to tax someone into the poor house is evidence that someone has been manipulated.

I've noticed a strange thing with cigarettes. Ok, I know they're bad for you but did you know that when there's a campaign against smoking on television the statistics of youths smoking increases? Here in Australia the tax on cigarettes is enormous. It's something like 75-80 percent. The story goes that this tax is a deterent against smoking and goes towards treating patients with smoking related illnesses. Ok. I can live with that BUT, every now and then, there are still campaigns against television and statistics of youths smoking still rises. Does this go together or is it a case of doublethink?

No doublethink involved with cigarettes, just kids being kids and doing it to rebel. The thought of smoking diseases never bothers them because diseases are all happen in the far, far future and by the time the teens realise what smoking's doing to them, they're hooked.

The nicotine addiction is aided by chemicals cigarette manufacturers add to create even stonger addiction. If cigarettes weren't incredibly addictive, there'd be no problem.

Healthyalt, I think it doesn't have any relations with doublethink. Kids are just dumber and dumber everyday and they are using it.

Here in the US the taxes on smokes are about 95 percent, so they have more to lose if people stop smoking. I would believe they would do anything for profit if they thought they could get away with it, after all, its all about money. :D

Teens smoke, because they don't it effect them. They are living in a personal fable, where the believe that they are special and unique and statistics doesn't apply to them.

Those who believe that the government knows best, does so with the same thinking as those who believe they're conspiring against the citizens. We make our own patterns, and overlook anything does doesn't fit our theory.

It's their duty too warn you that it harms you, but also they can't block you from buying it and smoking it. Don't worry, taxes won't make them loose their money; prices will go up and up...
I think kids wouldn't smoke that much without those bans and commercials; this is the their way of proving themselves and confronting with society, which is very important to them in those ages.

I think you are talking about information...not neccesarily thought manipulation. Everyone has the ability to keep informed. Where they get there information from could be the difference in what they know, percieve, and believe.

What manipulation techniques are you referring to? To be honest the OP seemed to me, to be describing what we typically call a 'Business ploy' or 'Marketing slogan'. The fact is, they put things on billboards to make people buy thigs. If you think that is manipulation, than almost everything printed might as well be a type of manipulation.

The way I see it, thought manipulation is actually convincing someone of ideas not of their own. For example. someone who thinks they know someone, but you insist on another fact of the person and drill it so thoroughly into their mind that its as if it had been there forever. Some call it gossip, maybe a type of blackmail, stabbing someone in the back, but regardless, the idea of planting or replacing a thought in someone's mind, changing their actions, is what a thought manipulation reall is in my mind. Not some slogan designed to make you buy something, because although in the short term it may change your idea of a product or political candidate or whatever, the fact is its not really manipulating you for good.
