Footies. Exclusively.
For me, it is not so much as the length of the socks that matters but their colour.
However, I do not wish to be labelled as someone who favours one sock colour over others so I shan't share the one I prefer here.
I would never think of wearing other colours but I wish well to those who prefer them.
no socks for me.
I can't stand them.
I never wear socks unless it's in the dead of winter and I am leaving the house, then it's wool but I don't like socks.
I love socks and I own them in every length and every colour of the rainbow. And some colours nature never 'thought' of.
But I do prefer short socks.
I think it would depend on the shoes and choice of pants.
Always socks. Blue ones preferably, with shoes of all kinds including sandals. (I do have a stereotype as a typical British male to uphold). Preferably socks with sandals and shorts.
Tricky little blighters socks though. I can never get the right shades of blue together consistently. I might manage it with one or two pairs, but you can guarrantee that of the ones with the elasticated tops that are a darker, more Prussian blue, one will have snuck away under the edge of the bed or into the rolls of a towel whilst I try to decide which of the remaining single pairs I am going to put with the Prussian one. Once I've made my decision and balled them up and stuffed them into the invariably overstuffed drawer, (with everything including certificates and shaver chargers), then the other eloping Prussian will be caught on the border - or in the towel rather - and I will have to try to match it with another unsuitable colour variant of my favourite blue.
I lead an interesting life, though no-one tends to talk to me for more than seven and a half minutes. I've usually locked the door well before then though....
Omg when we first came to Oz my folks were still putting us in knee high socks and sandals when we went to the beach! Who the hell walks around in their bathers like that???? Only poms. I'm still scarred from the traumatic torment we suffered.....
:banghead:
I think Helga makes an important point. Wool, cotton...
The thickness of the socks is as important as their length.
Hey, anyone can make a poll to discern the sock knowledge they so desire. I was curious about length, not fabric or thickness.
Yeah, wool socks are probably my favorite. Cotton can be OK at first, but after a while they get to feel like they are just some caked-on layer on top of my skin (I mean even if they're completely dry, but it's of course worse if the get wet). They lose their "bounce". Wool has a reputation for being itchy, but I just like that they feel separate from me. Unfortunately, there's only like an average of 0-3 cold enough days a year here in Texas that I could possibly wear them comfortably.
C'mon do a poll on underwear length and fabric next...
It's Winter so thus my preference for the Explorer sock. Perhaps as much as by necessity owing to the density, and the copper strands to absorb odour are a potential plus.
Though I should really emphasise quantity, for I wear two pairs at most times, and as often as not the top pair are donned backwards to cover the holes in the bottom pair, this leaves only a single layer of Explorer sock to keep the hole areas above and beneath my foot warm, but it's preferable to not enough warmth, one mere layer over entire foot, and of course no warmth at all. In an ideal world there'd be no holes at all, but I wear my explorers hard, especially when just walking around the house.
Lengthwise Explorers come in only one, and of course I, like most supporters of the Explorer conspiracy, might wish they were longer, but a representative from the company has declined to comment. I have an insider who is working on adjusting the looms to create an 'illegal' mid-high variety, whom I'm expecting to report back to me any moment now...
I have to admit, it was a wild exaggeration when I said "exclusively". When I wear shorts, the socks have to be short, though, and I seriously do have some footies, and I wanted to take a brave stand on their behalf.
These days I probably wear ankle-length a bit more often in that situation, though, because of these shoes I've got now that destroy the flesh above the ankle if it isn't covered. Also, if I'm going to be somewhere with burrs coming up, I'd rather pick them out of the socks than out of the hair on my calves.
But you're right, I think they actually look good on me when the situation allows. And I take particular, cosmopolitan pride in mentioning one of my rare blips to the right side of zero on the Kinsey Scale.
Is it vanity when you just want to look good for yourself? Hello there, handsome. What's a nice guy like you doing on a forum like this?
(Seriously, though).
