Good Luck!
Those are some really excellent poems, and picking just one out of them is a difficult task, but i've thought about it for a while and made my choice - but everyone who submitted should be proud of their work!
I agree, they're all very good indeed. I had a few I was particularly torn between but I have cast my vote. Good luck everyone :)
I enjoyed them all as well.
Amazing turn-out with these poems, incredible talents.
I haven't forgotten this contest, but let's keep it open until the weekend.
I agree with the others that there are some very good poems here. None that I would call perfect, as there a few errant lines and forced rhymes, but the variety of tones and voices and styles is wonderful. It was hard narrowing it down, and it took several rereadings to decide, but in the end I voted for the one that struck me most on the first reading. :)
I would like to thank everyone who has turned out to vote. Since there is a tie I will keep the contest open til Wednesday at 8.pm., at which time, regardless of the voting, it will be closed.
Again, thanks, y'all, for your interest and perusal, which is meat and drink to every writer.
It would depend entirely on what one means by "perfection". My rather simplistic definition of a perfect poem would be one in which I can't imagine any change that would make it better. I actually think there are a lot of poems that fall under that heading. Individual standards would vary, of course.
This poll is now closed.
Congratulations to the winners of The Beginnings and Endings poetry contest:
Between, by PrinceMyshkin AND Gastric Beginnings by Delta40.
Between
Between the beginning and the end
is the part we cannot bend:
the living and the loving,
the being and becoming.
Picture yesterday;
picture tomorrow:
one has hope,
the other...
Gastric Beginnings
Autumn leaves
might sweep across
the old jarrah floors
of tumble down houses
while chickens get blown
around the yard
but we still cluck, clack and
laugh together
through the seasons,
as each new,
fresh laid egg
is brought to the table.
I would like to thank everyone who participated, either by writing a poem, and submitting it or by voting. It is this interest and participation that keeps this site active, alive, and growing.
Congrats to Prince and to Delta! Love you my friends and thank you for sharing your poems. :)
Thanks Qimissung for running this contest. This was such a challenging contest and a tie in the end made it all the more interesting.
I just KNEW Prince wrote Between. Such wonderful wisdom in every line. Who else on Lit-Net could have penned them? Congratulations Prince! :hurray:
Congratulations, Delta40 and PrinceMyshkin!
congratualtions to Prince and Delta!!!
lol. Shhh. Don't tell anyone!
lol, I fixed it.
Hey, thanks again, everybody for the marvelous participation. We'll do another one in June, if you are interested.
Congrats to Prince and Delta! Both of those poems were amongst the ones I had narrowed down my voting for. I have a few quibbles I could make with both, but they're very good poems that I certainly have no objection to winning... although, you know what they say a tie is like. I think we need a system around here for breaking ties. Maybe from now on when a vote is tied we start another thread where voters choose just between those that are tied?
No, Morpheus, what do they say about ties?
I wasn't entirely happy with the situation, but I'd asked around a lot, and extended the contest for over a week. Now I kind of like it. Why won't more people vote? We have tons of members.
Well, what does everybody think of Morpheus' idea?
"A tie is like kissing your sister," was the phrase I was thinking of.
Qim, I have found the contest only now as it's all over... enjoyed all the poems and like the idea of two winners especially because both winning poems are differently, but equally excellent! Bravo Delta and Prince! Please keep me posted about new contests, if possible... cheers to you all.
