Please nominate the books you would like to read in September by July 31st.
Stendhal The Red and The Black...though it seems likely we'll end up reading Hawthorne or something of the like ...:D
The Gospel According to Jesus Christ by José Saramago
:ack2: After my own smart-aleck, instigator heart!
I wanted to read it right after I read Sentimental Education last year --but thought it'd be better to wait. And now I've waited....plus I just read Count of Monte Cristo--so it'd be a nice balance.
I doubt it will win-my nominations never do--but I'll probably make it my FB "classic" book for my book club on there--so if it doesn't win, and you still want to read it--we could do our own reading :)
The Last September by Elizabeth Bowen.
Originally I was thinking of nominating something else, but seeing as it is for September I could not resist this book as I have been wanting to read it for a while.
Light in August- Faulkner
I would like to nominate JULY'S PEOPLE by Nadine Gordimer. Thanks!
Hmm... September...

Hmm, The Red and The Black or Mambo Kings that's going to be a tough choice.
Yes. I'd like to nominate it for next month.
Magnificient: A 4-way tie!
5 way tie now. Thanks to yours truly.
My vote made Oscar Hijuelos' The Mambo Kings take the lead by 1. :)
Boy it's still pretty close!
I'm still deciding.
Finally, Mambo Kings is leading :D
It was a toss up for me Mambo Kings or The Red and the Black, but I went with the colors, man, the colors.
I'd heard that it's the 50th anniversary of the publishing of To Kill a Mockingbird, so it seemed like a good time to read it. But...
