Hobbies. Well reading (not for any literary examination really, only enjoyment of a good story); I play a wide number of sports (and watch even more); Waste Management Practices (yeah, I am that dull) & I like to build things (my current project is a otterman)
I read a lot obviously, but I do a lot of different sports as well. I debate matters of political importance with my friends frequently too. Besides that, I just do whatever I am inclined to do.
my newest hobby: i'm writing a day calendar.
I'm about half way through.
Other than that, I write poetry and books (i'm working on my second)... mostly for my own enjoyment/release... i've only shown them to three or four people.
Aside from that, I love the outdoors, used to go camping once a month, every month of the year.
I also like to read (duh) and I love to learn. I've read most of the articles on my Encarta '97 program.
I think I have more hobbies than I would like, as too many result in distracting me from things like college.
Most of the time, I read (of course), write a lot (poetry, plays, and music), do a lot of walking in natural scenic areas, play chess (face-to-face or on Yahoo Games), cook, chit-chat with some of my good friends and family, attend concerts, watch movies, and, though it never sounds fun to others, study much on the subjects of human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, organic chemistry, and French.
I wish I could commit more to visual arts (sculpting, painting, sketching, etc.), but can never quite develop the talent. :p
I sometimes think I have too many different interests which make me too scatterbrained (I love this word) but yesterday my brother said it doesnt look like I'm really interesting so I've started to wonder...(but he seems not to understand that I study languages and literatures cos I like them, not just as a career choice).
Well I like to read, to listen to music, to learn language even if I can't put myself to do it as a hobby cos if I have no lessons I just avoid studying...though I love to translate (especially songs) when I have time... Well I like to chat, online but not only... and learn things about other cultures...but I guess that travelling doesnt count as a hobby...
I don't really have any 'manual' hobbies as I really lack patience and I'm really clumsy anyway... so everytime I've really made something, it was never as I wanted it to be :S
This is nice to read! Though I must admit I do not have as much to contribute :bawling:. Haha.
I love reading and watching all the detectives and CSI-like television shows. I write whenever I can. Besides that I spent almost all my evenings with friends or my sisters. With my sisters I talk and talk and talk and... With friends I go to the movies, play games (Scrabble, Rummikub, Colonist of Catan, card games) or talk about literature. Oh, and I dance.. I don't do it well.. but love to go to the dancing school and have been going there for nearly 10 years. Classical dances: tango, quickstep, chachacha, stuff like that. Ehm, and lately I have become addicted to coming to forums. Quite bad for me :crash: :D
hmmmm.................reading (what a shocker!), occasionally writing, basketball, American football, football, wrestling, building models of cars and other moving things, and just creating the most insane thoughts that are story-like.
I used to have lots of hobbies, then I became a Mom.
But now that the little one is a little older, I've been able to re-gain some hobby time. Naturally, reading is a big one, and writing when the muse is upon me (which hasn't been for quite awhile). After those two, are cooking and attempting to maintain some kind of garden in this desert climate that's disguised as a suburb. My final hobby, is maybe best called a collection of hobbies, or what I call my "projects." These frequently have to do with the little one, but not always. They can be anything from organizing a scavenger hunt, to sending a plastic troll on a trip around the world, to learning to make ceramics so I can teach my daughter to make ceramics, "kitchen science" (like growing crystals using laundry bluing and charcoal), and recycling old stuff with no purpose into new stuff with a new purpose.
And I waste a lot of time on the internet.
music, reading, drawing, cinema, drinking...
Aswell as reading, I have an obsession with drumming. I wonder if there are any other members in this forum that are drummers... (pm me if you are).
.....I'm drumming my fingers right now as I try to figure out if any of the miriad of activities I perform can be considered hobbies........
......I'm the type of person that bores rather quickly after I attain a level of profeciency at something......skydiving, motorcycles, whitewater rafting, whatever. I tend to change my hobbies quite frequently..............like now I've stopped drumming my fingers and have begun to tap my foot........
I have a suspicion that i'd be a really good drummer.
I have a lot of hobbies, but the ones I practice most often would be collecting beetles, reading, writing, drawing, and of course, enjoying good music.
Hmm .. i'll try list a few.
Horse riding, baking, reading [obviously], fashion [this includes reading fashion magazines such as Vogue & Harpers & Queen, researching fashion of bygone & much lovelier eras, my favorite being Rococo, shopping even if it's just window-shopping, thinking up new outfits that i'll love & my Boyfriends aunty will tell me she hates :p etc], theatre [i'm an actress with a Youth Theatre but I consider acting my vocation rather than a hobby], collecting G1 [1980s] My Little Ponies, I can play a few instuments but I want to return to violin, learn piano & my Bf is currently teaching me guitar, I also wish to learn many languages, photography [I photograph myself because i've not been spotted by a professional photgrapher yet :p ], attending gigs [i'm an alt. music fan, metal etc], watching films & documentaries, visiting museums & art galleries, and i'd like to consider travelling a hobby too, although I can't afford it right now.
That's all I can think of at this present moment in time :)
That's like the hobby of the century!Quote:
I used to have lots of hobbies, then I became a Mom.
And lets see I have lots of hobbies! First I like reading! I used to read all the time. In fact I read so much I was shy......wow. But than I discovered....the internet! Than my life changed. I stopped reading and my life became the computer. It still is actually. But now I've been getting more and more into reading.
Than I have Anime/Manga. My life source. My dream honestly is to become a manga artist and move to Japan, making drawing another of my hobbies. Perhaps sometime I can post a few pictures.
Anything else. Oh yes. Danny Phantom. I haven't been so obsessed with an American cartoon since I was a baby wondering how the people got into the tv! ^^
i have no hobbies except for reading. well there are actually a million things i want to do, such as listening to music, learning to make music, playing the piano, learning to play the guitar, learning to play the drus, revisiting my violin case, taking a walk, riding my bike, going to the beach, hiking, going to the museums, learning about philosophy, learning about history, learning about every single subject you can think of, traveling to europe, traveling in asia, sketching, drawing, writing, observing nature, watching all the old movies, watching all the good movies, watching all the bad movies for the fun of it, learning how to use the computer, etc. etc.
but alas, i have no time. which is why i can only settle with reading. books are my friends.
People watching, a usefull and meditative pastime often used by people suffering from boredom or with overly creative minds.
This may be a thread already, but what are your hobbies? We all know that we all like to read and maybe even write, but what else to you like to do in your free time?
For me it is cooking. I know this is a daily chore in most houses, but I love to cook. I'll sometimes spend hours making an elabrate meal. I have also been trying to cook and bake with my son. Making meatloaf is great fun when you are 4, and we're hoping to make bat sugar cookies for Halloween. I also love to quilt and crochet. Crocheting keeps me seated and satifies my need to fidget, and I just love the end result of quilting. Whenever I finally finish my daughter's quilt I'll post a picture.
aw, cooking must be such a nice hobby. i wish my dad would teach me how to do it.
my main hobbies apart from reading are swimming, running a group for kids (8-12 y/o) with my best friend+ going on a camp with those brats once a year, going out with my best friend (Starbucks, restaurants, windowshopping) and watching films in English.
I like lots of other things, too, but I won't list them all here. :yawnb: zzzZZZZ
One hobby? Oh, I have too many. And they are all listed on my profile page. :D
When I'm not reading or studying, I like to watch films or sci-fi programs, or just relax and listen to music. I also love cross-stitching, but I haven't been able to do that for awhile. My "eyepower" is all used up in reading. :p
writing, but who doesn't like it?
Word to Bulletproof. ;)
My hobbies are: collecting autographs (from athletes, authors etc), following my various sports teams, biking when time permits, dodging library fines, drawing dumb things when I should be drawing homework, my mission to know every word to every Dean Martin song and watching all his movies, and knowing everything possible about dolphins and species of. Smaller satellite hobbies are Sherlock Holmes, dinosaurs, and John Wayne's cowboy movies.
Music! Non-mainstream.
Painting/Drawing, listening to music...researching stuff and movies!! I love going to see movies in theater. Renting movies is fun as well. Lately whenever I have free time I just vegetate because I'm so tired from studying or applying to schools. But now I have some art projects I have to do so yay! But I'm constantly listening to music. :D
I like to cook, but prefer baking...but I don't anymore. I made a huge mess and lets just say the Madre was not to happy!
Writing - always and forever.
And cooking, of course. Mostly desserts - I'm a typically girl in that aspect. ;)
When I have time, Counted cross stitch, knitting, but mostly genealogy research. I love researching our family tree and trying to find out who we were and where we've been.
Learning and playing the Violin...I really like knitting as well, but not so good at it to be honest..lol
I taught myself to knit and can only knit flat things, baby blankets, afagans, and scarves.
I love crochet...and I tried learning how to do scarves, but I failed. I do smaller things, I'm still trying..lol
I know how to crochet, know all the stitches and how to read the patterns, but I can not keep the tension right. I start off with a right, but if a square is supposed to be 6 inches, it ends up 2!! I've tried everything but I hold my yarn too tight or something. I gave up several years ago on crochet.
It is a bit hard, I first learned it at school, then I stopped practising when I entered university, but now I'm trying to remember what I learned before, it's quite hard, that I'm thinking about trying to find one of those teach-yourself websites, or maybe try and find someone who can teach me.
My hobby is also my job. I'm a writer, I write everywhere but I haven't actually finished or published anything yet.
I also like reading and am learning how to sew. Art is my hobby too.
If you really ask me what I like most is reading poems and theologies. The reason, one and only is life is a mystery, in fact a riddle and no books go deeper and deeper into some unknown realms than books of poems and theologies. When n I read Dante, or any other Sufi poems or Gibran or the Mahabharata or the Veda I find something that changes me, and of course they widened the horizon of thinking indeed.
If I have time to spare it is indeed to do some other things of creativeness. That is gardening. I have a great passion for traveling, and indeed it costs so much and not easily affordable I have deferred it at the moment.
In my spare time I usually engage in some sort of physical activity, whether it be a simple bike ride or a more elaborate event such as soccer or ice hockey. I also spend a good deal of time on the internet. However, I contribute most of my efforts towards my education, at least at this point.
I always try to begin that but I never have much luck. It is like my family never existed. I have such a hard time finding the necessary records and information. How do you go about your research?
Anyway, I have just too many hobbies for a sane person to have (at least semi-sane person :) ). Other than reading, I am really into films (I am a serious buff - I am talking all genres and all decades!). I am just as much into theater. I watch so much television that I guess you could practically consider it a hobby. :) I like to participate in Civil War reenacting. I just joined a dance troupe for 18th century dancing. I am a dancer (ballet, jazz, tap, bellydance and a little ballroom), but I guess I take that a little too seriously to consider it just a hobby. I collect a lot of stuff. My collections vary too much to list here. It varies from Coca-Cola memorabilia to Civil War stuff to Milwaukee Brewers memorabilia to Walt Disney Classics figurines ("Beauty and the Beast", to be specific), and so on. I love to color. Some people seem to find that silly. I guess become I am not a kid, but I absolutely love it!! I have an absolutely crazy hobby of making clothing from different time periods. I honestly don't know why I do this, but I do. For some reason I consider this enjoyable! I also like to do needlepoint, crosstitch and crochet. I think that is about it! :)
I've taken on a new hobby. It's called a degree in English Literature at University.
I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself. :D
writing, definitely. And reading as well. I'm quite an excellent speed-reader ;) i play guitar, piano, and the bamboo flute, and I really loooove to sing (in fact I've already recorded a few songs for a singer-friend's album, and for a movie as well): I surf the net a lot (litnet is my main addiction) and have plans of making a better blog. My friends say that I have this strange determination in me that makes me capable of doing almost everything, save perhaps dancing.
