Anybody interested?

Detroit Lions still have the best (cutest) uniforms.

Well, I didn't say I was interested but since I have a fantasy football team in a mostly girl league I need to pay a little attention to the games...:D

yeah, in my opinion, American football should be called tackle-ball instead or something else. It's more about running the ball and throwing the ball than kicking it. You score one point by kicking it through the goal posts but you get six for running it or throwing it into the end zone. But whatever - it's fun to watch in HD

Unless your going for a field goal then you get 3 points for kicking it through the goal posts.

I knew I was forgetting something.

Either way, you still get more points for running it or throwing than you do for kicking. But the kicker is important. If your team can't get a touchdown, you still get a chance to score with your kicker. And that is all I know about football. No clue what a safety is.

I'm not sure what a safety is either. All I know is what I need to pick for my team, which is a kicker, a defense, A quarterback (and why is it called quarterback?), Wide receivers, and running backs.

Saftey is when one defense sacks the QB in their(the defenese) own endzone. 2 pt.s plus teh ball back in form of a kickoff. I used to watch football, back when I played and for a few years after, but now it's kind of boring.

great point Oniw. once you experience the intensity of playing the game, watching it can become boring. it's no surprise that the vast majority of viewers of the sport never actually played a sport in high school.

There's only a finite number of teams and a finite number of spots on those teams. A majority of people in general never played a sport in high school.

Yeah, I'm interested. Baseball has become a drag at this point. My Baltimore Orioles suck big time. :sick: :sick: So let's move on to football. At least my Dallas Cowboys have a chance this year. :)

Yes papaya, a safety in scoring is trapping the ball in the opposition's end zone while they control the ball for two points. But the two defensive palyers behind the line backers are also called safeties.

Well, yes the majority of people never played, but of the people I know who played, they are the most fanatic. I don't think that makes a difference.

I'm a big football fan. I prefer college (and the Buckeyes above all), but I still get my hopes up for the Browns every year--and we all know how that turns out. Geez. Just one winning season! That's all I ask. :sick:

I'll occasionally go out to watch my old high school play too--they're getting pretty good; the quarterback's committed to Northwestern and another kid's going to Georgia Tech. A big improvement from when I was a high schooler and the team went 0-10 in my sophomore year!

that's true. this made me think of something else about people who never played a high school sport. they usually go on to become the most fanatical golfers. :lol:

I started following the Cowboys after watching Bob "Bullet" Hayes in the 64 Olympics. Watching them on the tube now.

My brother and I played thru out our school years. My son is in his second year of Jr High ball.

Do you know, I don't actually--in fact I keep thinking how glad I am not to be in high school anymore! I wouldn't go back if you paid me. Not to uh, depress anyone still in that particular mire. :p Really I just like to support the local kids. Not to mention that two or three of them might be on tv someday!

Also, my college doesn't have a football team. It's an art school so there's dodgeball night and frisbee on the lawn, and that's about it. I can't afford Buckeyes tickets and therefore if I'm to see any live football at all high school's the only option! :D

(By the way, I love the Wonder Years)

You remember Bob Hayes? One of the fastest football players in the history of the game, if not the fastest. But I have to say my favorite Cowboy receiver was Drew Peirson. He always came through in the clutch. Remember that Hail Mary catch from Roger Staubach (still my favorite Cowboy quarterback) against the Vikings in the 75 playoffs.

One thing about Hayes that most people do not know is the zone defense was created to stop him.

Drew was great and having Golden Richards playing on the other side of the line made him even better. I have many found memory's of the 70s Cowboys. Its late and now is the time for bed, some other time I will post some of them.

:lol: i know what you mean about feeling glad not to be in high school. there is something deeply social about going to a high school football game, what is ultimately a spirited community experience. like you said, your presence alone helps to support the kids. thanks.

Peirson was no Lynn Swann, and Staubach no Terry Bradshaw. :D Staubach couldn't scramble for his life, but his passing accuracy was uncanny.

you had to love the performance of Mr. Tony Dorsett. :thumbs_up did i mention i hated the cowboys growing up? :D

Swann was better than Peirson overall, I'll admit. But I think Staubach was better than Bradshaw. Bradshaw had a great team around him. What do you mean Staubach couldn't scramble. I'm sure you were too young to have seen him play, but he was a great runner, and it led to a number of injuries. Here from Wiki:

Browns were killed of course. Why must Romeo insist on starting Charlie Frye at quarterback? I mean I'm not lobbying for Brady Quinn to begin yet, but he could at least start Derek Anderson or something rather than wait until the second half to put him in. :sick:

At least Kellen Winslow's finally earning his paycheck at tight end..

I watched last night rooting for Manning and crew, but the real game is on Monday for me. I'm from Cincinnati, and I wish I had cable to watch the Bengals game. First, they're my hometown team and I'll not get to see the game. Second, Chad Johnson is planning something that he says will likely mean a half million dollar fine, and I'm going to miss it:bawling: . I have to hear about it second hand or search the Net after the game to see what stunt he pulls this time. Did anyone catch the gold shoes, followed by Nike shoes last season? That ran him a quarter million because Reebok is contracted for all the NFL uniforms. His pranks are normally funny, and I can't wait to find out what he does tonight for their first game.

The prank was a dud!!! All he did was go back to the bench and don an announcers jacket that had "Future Hall Of Famer 20??" written on the back.

Funny thing Higley. Pennington was hurt and had to come off the field sunday and the Jet fans cheered when he left. :lol: I think they're looking for a change.
