I would like to nominate Twelfth Night by Shakespeare.
Well I would definitely nominate O. Wilde and his Short Stories.... :yawnb:
I kind of thought one of Wodehouse's Jeeves books would be fun, but we don't seem to have any here, so I'm going to go with Something New.
Robert Frost's poetry is wonderful Christmas reading.
For our Christmas reading, we tend to pick books which are related to the season and/or carry the spirit of the season.
I am not familiar with Something New. Is it about Christmas?Even though we usually pick novels for the BC readings, maybe we can start a separate thread for Christmas poetry? :)
Sure but unless you nominate how can we? :D
Twelfth Night should be good...
If not, you could have a look at here for some ideas, maybe? :)
So weve already done THE classic christmasss story --- 2004 Christmas carol
and we did the scifi last year --Hog father (Terry pratchett)
grrrr I cant really see anything thats not mushy well except for christmas jars..
Oh wait a christmas mystery?
How about He sees you while your sleeping by Mary higgins Clark and daughter.
"Box of Delights" John Masefield ??
Isn't there a book about the fourth Wise Man, by Michel Tournier? Although, I seem to remember that, unlike the other three gift bearers, he did not arrive until Good Friday.
Nominations so far:
Twelfth Night by Shakespeare
He Sees You While You Are Sleeping by Mary Higgins Clark (Night, I cannot spot this on amazon.co.uk?)
Box of Delights John Masefield

hummmm might withdraw that can I just say somthing though if we read 12th night then youll be reading 2 shakespear plays at the same time.....
2nd try.
The Michel Tournier book is available in English as "The Four Wise Men." It tells the tales of the three Magi and a fourth whose journey was delayed. It would be a heavier read than -
- "The Box of Delights" by Masefield. This is a story written for older children - a magical and alchemical quest through Edwardian English winter countryside during the Christmas holidays.
"Twelfth Night" would be a safe choice.
I included only the first of your nominations because each member is allowed to nominate one book only (if that is what you meant by '2nd try'? :))
I can find it on amazon.com but not on amazon.co.uk. Is it possible that it is not published in the UK or under a different title maybe? We will not be starting to SDG readings till January because December is already a very busy month and many members find it hard to attend the Forum regularly and/or take part Club readings. So if Twelfth Night is chosen for our Christmas Reading, we will not be reading two Shakespeare plays simultaneously.Quote:

I do not make decisions as a Moderator on personal whims (however tempting the idea might be at times :p!).Quote:

Since the inital suggestion for the SDG was to read Twelfth Night during Christmas season, I am not sure what difference it makes whether we read it for SDG or the BC.

No, no - I'd tried to send the message once, but pressed the wrong thing.
I'm quite happy to have only one nomination - but, for my nomination, please take whichever of the two books best matches the spirit of the Christmas read.
I nominate "Twelfth Night". Good and Christmasy! Remember the Christmas tree scene? Light and funny, too for the season.
I hate to do this but........Skipping Christmas by John Grisham
My first choice was How the Grinch stole Christmas, but I guess that might be to quick of a read.
Is A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote and Beth Peck to babyish?
In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash (Paperback) by Jean Shepard
The Movie A Christmas Story is based partially on this book.
I guess I only get one nomination huh?
I'll go with In God We trust
If it's eligible, the whole book isn't about christmas but a few parts are.
whats A christmas story??
Sounds like fun! I haven't watched the movie.
I saw this one while going through the list and would like to give it a try some time. I am very curious about Capote (all To Kill A Mockingbird's fault!!!)

:eek2: even I dont trust me fully....
Argh! So much for amazon's search engine! If you enter 'you are' instead of 'you're' it returns no results: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_...u+are+sleeping
