I have read more Anne Rice than any other author. I'm not sure exactly why this is. Are there any other Rice fans on this site?? I would love to discuss her books with others. I used to belong to an Anne Rice forum, but it got a bit naff after a while.
I've read a few of her books, the ones I've read I've liked. I haven't really gotten into the "vampire" books, well except Memnoch . I've seen the movie "Queen of the Damned" and was thinking of picting up the book.
If you do plan to read Queen of the Damned, I would recommend reading the first three. (Queen of the Damned is the third) The film is a poor mix of The Vampire Lestat and the Queen of the Damned. I haven't yet found someone who has read the books that can stand to see the film. I have to turn it off after the first ten minutes! Of course, taken as just a film it isn't an excellent production but it is entertaining. I also don't think Jon Davis' (KORN) voice is right for Lestat, but others may disagree.

oh, yipes I thought the Queen of the Damned was sepeate from the vampires series - I don't know why I thought that!!
I'm a big fan of Marius, from what I've read/seen so far can I just skip ahead to his book?
Marius is in all of them, I think, especially the second two. Also in Pandora; it tells of before he was a vampire. I haven't read his yet. I have an online friend from Germany who adores Marius. Mind you, he does sound a bit foxy :brow:

i have read up to the vampire armand in the vampire chronicles and i read vitorio the vampire... hmmmm cant think of any others i have read by her.... oh well.
I also read the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy, which is DEFINITELY not for all readers. It's erotica. It was funny, pervy, and in general pretty good if you have an open mind. It did make me laugh in a lot of places though, lol

I read Memnoch ages ago.I remember I enjoyed it,but I couldn't tell you any other details.Not a fan of the film.

Was Memnoch made into a film? I really did like that book, it made me consider different possibilities.

Ive recently read the three 'lives of the mayfair witches' and fell in love with anne rice's style of writing.
I was wondering if someone could tell me which book I should read now. Do I need to read all the vampire chronicles before I can read blackwood farm and find out what is happening with the mayfairs.
Is there a particular order to read these books??

I loved the first three of the Vampire Chronicles and Tale of the Body Theif wasn't too bad but there are only so many times we can be told that Lestat is blond, powerful and bad before it starts getting a little repetitive. :rolleyes: I think the key, for me, is not to read too many of her books in a row, I need to have a break when I read her books because they all start to feel the same after while, but I suppose you could say that about almost any author.
Anybody read the new one about Christ? Wasn't that one written after she got back into religion?
No, I haven't read it yet and yes, it was written after she renewed her faith. From the reviews, it's sounds kind of odd, I think I'll probably skip that one.
I'm really curious to she what it's about, especially after reading memnoch.
Did you know they've made a musical about the Vampire Chronicles? It's called Lestat and apparently, it's not very good. I just read a story about it on Yahoo. Read about it here.
I'm a huge Anne Rice fan. I'm re-reading her early Vampy Chronicles at the moment cause they're my favorites.

Anne Rice? Oh, I fell in love with her characters and the plots are enchanting, too. I just can't resist the tempetation to read her books. So I am hude fan of her novels and especially of The Vampire chronicles.:)
I have read all but 7, 8(Vittorio and Armand) and I love Anne Rice and it totally makes no sense to me (Its not exactly my genre). I haven’t read anything outside the vamps though. Love the name hazel-ra. You know a lot of W/D fans are Rice fans too. I just saw this post I didn’t expect it. The only other Anne Rice fan I know is the one who got me into these books in the first place and now I’ve read more than her so I have been starved for conversation on one of my new favorite authors.
Concerning Memnoch, I really liked it, But my one friend who also read this didn´t, for the kinda the same princple as the other dude with his girlfriend. Its like the divinchi code, people start treating fiction like doctrine. I feel any of Memnochs short comings are totally made up for in the introduction of the Blood Canticle(you know where lestate basically ripps a new one for the readers who whined about the last book) I am totally gonna put that on my t-shirt. I loved the intro almost as much as the whole book.
I have heard but not read of the witching hour.
The Withing hour is about Mayfair witchs I think. I didn't read it too, but I am completely obsessed with The Vampire Chronicles, as everithing about vampires actually.:)
I think Anne Rice's Feast of all saints and cry to Heaven are brilliant. The Feast of all saints has to be her best though. I couldn't get in to Violin, but i did enjoy the vampire books. i only got as far as Armand.
I love the three books about The Mayfair Witches and am actually in the middle of re-reading the trilogy right now. I'd recommend them to anyone. "The Witching Hour" (followed by "Lasher" and "Taltos"), especially. I started reading the Vampire Chronicles many, many years ago, but didn't finish it out. I loved "Queen of the Damned", though. Excellent book. I was thinking of going back to read all of the Vampire books after I finish this trilogy since I've since read that some of my favorite characters from the witches trilogy make appearances in the later Vampire books.
Cry to Heaven was excellent. The Sleeping Beauty Erotica work was alright, and the first Vampire book was O.K., I was forced to put down Lestat though. I personally think she needs a much better editor, but other than that she is an alright novelist.
I was a big fan of the Vampire Chronicles while i was in high - school, well ..... a pretty long time ago. I've read the first 5 books. Memnoch was the last one i've read. I kind of gave up the vampire stories but at 16 Anne Rice's novels impressed me a great deal.
The Queen of the Damned - the movie was painful to watch, i hated it from the beginning. Interview with a vampire was much better, i loved what Neil Jordan (the director) did, the characters were great and so was the whole atmosphere ...
Oh, yes, the film Queen of the Damned was really bad idea :mad:, but Interview with a vampire was very true to the book, but I still didn't like it a lot. It was extremely beautiful, but still to read all this in book is a lot different.Quote:

As far as Ms. Rice's style, it is good but she does certain things that REALLY bother me. For instance her use of "waked", as in "Lestat WAKED Akasha" (I am paraphrasing). It is WOKE for the love of God! Lestat WOKE Akasha.
As far as the movies are concerned, the screenplay for Interview with the Vampire was writen by Anne Rice, so that is why it was more accurate. At the time, the studio had purchased the rights to Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and Queen of the Damned. For whatever reason, the studio never got around to making the last two movies. Then, when the realized that their contract was about to expire, they decided to mesh the two movies into one.
I am such a geek, I have named all of my harddrives, iPod, flash drive, etc after characters from the Vampire Chronicles.
I have not read any of her other stories, though.

I think you should read Merrick next, then Blackwood Farm. Merrick is up next for me, but I think the rules of which Quinn talks are in Merrick. Plus in Blackwood farm, they talk about Merrick dying.
