How This Works
Each quiz (book or author) will have it's own topic, members can then submit a single question to a quiz topic. When a quiz reaches a round number of questions (10 or 20) I will add it to the site and everyone can take it. Once it is added you may still submit questions, they can be added later.
We only need quizzes for books/authors on this site. If there is not an existing thread for a book/author you may create it.
Any questions, please post in this thread.
-
Are we supposed to be posting the question and the answer (or possible options) for it?
-
Yes
Example:
What color is the sky?
Red
Green
Blue
Pink
-
So everyone will see the correct answers and answer the quizes accordingly?
-
No.
When I make a quiz I'll delete them off the thread, and the traffic the site gets is far greater than the people actually reading the forums, thousands of people will take them having never visited the forums.
-
Just a little FYI, I added about 7 previously submtited quizzes today.
-
Where do we submit the questions?
-
I think you can go to Literature forum, search the author, and you'll find a link "submit a quiz:
-
If you jsut have some questions but not a full quiz you can make a new thread in this forum and post your partial quiz, them someone else can finish it.
-
trial post
Are questions about a particular literary work acceptable? Any questions?
-
-
if there isn't an author at the other list, in the forum, how can we add that author?
-
Hello downing.. click the "Submit a Quiz" link on top right hand side on this page.. http://www.online-literature.com/forums/quiz.php?
If you have any other questions about submitting a quiz that way you can post them here :)
-
I'm afraid I haven't put the question corectly. I'm talking not about a quiz, but about that the list with authors from the site and in the forum does not have some important names such as Margaret Mitchell. And I'm wondering how to put this name, for exemple, for being more threads concerning different autors. Can you please help me?
-
Ah ok, I see. Well, if the author's name is not listed already, you can always suggest them in the Book Requests area linked below.
http://www.online-literature.com/for...splay.php?f=11
However, Margaret Mitchell (1900-1949) author of Gone with the Wind (1936) will have her works under copyright protection, as they were published after 1923. see copyright info:
http://www.online-literature.com/for...ad.php?t=17769
But you could start a discussion topic about her in the General Literature area:
http://www.online-literature.com/for...isplay.php?f=4
-
Not necessary her text to appear on the site-Gone with the wind. But to be added at the list of authors of the forum and have special threads concerning her work. So, Margaret Mitchell and a thread GONE WITH THE WIND where we colud talk about the certain book.
-
Can we submit an entire quiz, or this supposed to be a group effort? I ask because of the stipulation in the first sentence of this thread: "members can then submit a single question to a quiz topic." If I have a number of questions and answers on one topic, does that constitute a properly designed quiz?
-
Jean-Baptiste yes you can submit your own quiz apart from this topic (which is more suited for people who don't want to submit more than one question at a time.) We prefer quizzes to be at least 10 questions long.
Just click the "Quizzes" link at the top of the main forums page, then "Submit a Quiz".
Remember to select from the drop down menus "Number of Questions" and "Answers Per Question" (which can be 2,3, or 4, and will be the same for all questions) That seems to be the number one thing people forget to do when submitting a quiz :)
-
Thanks for your help, Logos. I'm ready to submit my quiz, but the drop down menus that you mention don't seem to be working for me. They are there, but they are blank and inoperative. If I submit it without this step will things get irreparably messed up? Also, is there anyway for me to preface this quiz, to explain that it is not meant to be overly scholarly, but that it is intended to arouse interest in the book in those who may be unfamiliar with its humor, or is that just to be tacit and assumed?
-
Jean-Baptiste, sorry, since the recent forum update the quiz area has been getting some tweaks, probably why the drop menus are blank, so if you can hold off for a bit, I'll post here when things are smoothed out.
Yes you can preface your quiz in the Description text field and that is appreciated so people know what they are getting themselves into :p
-
Thank you so much, Logos. I'll wait to post my quiz until I recieve your ok.
-
The submit a quiz function is up and running again :)

-
Logos, you have been doing a lot of work on the site. Thank you, we appreciate it.
-
Yes, I have to say I'm impressed with you diligence, Logos. You seem to be everywhere. And thank you for fixing this glitch.
-
Heh... not that logos doesn't do a lot of work, but she merely noticed the fix, the quizman did it.
-
Thanks you guys but yeah, I just try to keep things organised here, I'm entirely *not* capable of fixing anything here, that is for the tech gods to do
-
Jean-Baptiste, your Ulysses quiz is now live :D thank you for submitting it.
And I've edited it now to add your description.
-
Could not find phrase 'quiz_submitted'. What is wrong??? I make 20 questions and answers and then Could not find phrase 'quiz_submitted'. ???
-
don't worry, it made it in.
-
-
Hi Everybody!
I think I've just created a little mess...I created my quiz and then tried to submit it, but the result was: "Could not find phrase 'quiz_submitted' ". So I tried andtried again...then I read the 3 latest posts of this section...I suspect I have sent you a lot of various versions of the same quiz...I'm soooo sorry! Please forgive me...
-
It is our fault. I have to fix that phrase. The problem is last time I tried to fix it I broke something.
-
Elena your quiz is posted. If you wanted to add questions to it please create a new thread in this forum for your questions and post them and myself or a mod will add them.
-
Just a little note to anyone who has, or is thinking of, submitting a quiz:
the "Could not find phrase 'quiz_submitted'" message is still appearing once you have done the final step to submit the quiz.
Please ignore it.
It is just a bug and does not mean your quiz hasn't entered the system. It does not mean you have to re-submit your quiz.
-
A request:
Please use plain English text only when submitting quizzes. Do not use accent characters acute-'é', grave-'é', circumflexes-'ê', umlauts-'ö', Cyrillic, cedilles-'ç', etc. etc.
Do not use <HTML> or [BB] code.
Do not use " double quotes ", just ' single ones '.
Thank you again to all who have submitted quizzes :D
-
I do not comprehend how it works, can someone explain to me explicitly?
-
It is best if you just go through the process wilbur of submitting one, it's fairly intuitive, just keep in mind the few notes made in this thread.
-
So how long we have to wait until the post of our quiz?
-
Amount of time depends on a bunch of things. Check the main Quiz page here http://www.online-literature.com/forums/quiz.php for the newest additions. Thanks for submitting some JohnAVG :)
-
I screwed up trying to make the Martin Chuzzlewit Quiz. I accidentally hit Enter and submitted it, which wasn't my intention. Sorry. My bad.
-
Okay, I have redone the quiz. Hopefully it is done correctly this time. It should have twenty questions with four answers. There is another quiz that I screwed up on, as I mentioned above, and that should have only one question and probably only one answer.
