(A bit obvious, but) I nominate Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

I am tempted to nominate Twilight on the grounds hey its got vampires in it and shouldn't we at least acknowledge the fact the book is so popular and understand what other people are reading nowadays . Having said that I couldnt get past page 250 with out risking damaging the book I was that annoyed so I am not going to do it.
Instead I am going to nominate Paul Magrs' Never the bride

How about Move Underground by Nick Mamatas? Since you just read On the Road and someone wants Lovecraft, why not combine both?
I have yet to come across a horror novel that really frightens me. Charlee Jacob assaults the senses with some cheap tricks, but she never scared me.
Drk, I'd support you, I would, but I am discomfited with writers who resurrect dead writers as characters. I think the greater challenge is in the honor of imitation.
