My warmest regards to you all.
:banana:You are so fortunate to have so many brilliant friends who recognize all of your talents; My next door neighbors are the only ones who hear me sing (in the shower) and they claim it's just pitifull. It sounds pretty good to me:brow:
:redface::banana:I'm amazed and impressed; Are you this funny before the scotch? Well, I'd invite you to any party I had.
Hello, everyone, my first introduction into this community. Very nice to be a part of it. Looking for Joyceans and Nabokovians and lots of others....
Hi, to all!
I am a resident of North Carolina. I enjoy having the mountains and the coast within close proximity of each other, and it seems that this has greatly inspired my writing muses, as well as outlook.
I am in my final year of being a student at a local Early College High School (for those of you who do not know of what I speak, I attend high school and college classes at the same time on my local community college campus, and I will graduate this year with an AA in College Transfer without paying a dime.). When I graduate, I intend to pursue a BA of English, and perhaps go on to complete an MA in English or Counseling, this I have yet to decide.
Literature is a natural high for me, and I enjoy it nearly as much as I enjoy stepping outside in the mornings to take a breath of cool, fresh air and watch the sun rise. It is a wonderful opportunity to be among like-minded individuals on this forum, and I look forward to getting to know you all.
Hi, everybody!
hi from Turkey
a big welcome to all the newbies!
Hi, my name is Gigi and I am from Ohio. I enjoy reading the classics, especially the Brits. I am a huge Jane Austen fan and that is originally what drew me to this site.
I would have to say that my favorite book is Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. I can read it again and again and each time I find something I had previously overlooked.
I write in my spare time and have recently decided to make it a priority. I am taking a few online courses to try and disipline myself. I've the inspiration but not the perspiration.
I have been looking around and I am not exactly sure how this site works, I suppose I should read a few of the guideline posts, huh? Anyway, I really hope to find some like minds on this site and become motivated to get through the stack of books I have always wanted to read.
And that dancing banana is just silly...
hi everyone. I'd like to take this moment to introduce myself. :p
Hey there,
I just found this cosy hall of literature and hope to get and give some reading inspirations around here.
Looks promising so far .. ;)

Let's see what is important. I am 24, from Texas, and love reading. I write short stories, usually in the horror vein. My reading range is vast and inclusive of almost all genres. I found this place while looking for a place to have intelligent, informative discussion of a literary nature. It seems I have found it.
Virgil, I have to say I love your signature. Byron is an absolute favorite of mine. I think Lady Caroline Lamb's description of him is very accurate.
See you all around the forums.
Hi all!
I'm from Nr. Nottingham in the UK and I found this forum whilst searching for a literary quote. My favourite genres are classics and crime fiction. I am a really big crime fiction reader and love being introduced to new authors. I also enjoy reading children's literature and have recently got interested in illustrators. I'd like to say that I'm an avid writer, but unfortunately I don't seem to have the 'gift.' I would love to learn and improve, though! I enjoy watching adaptations of novels onto the big screen and discussing how will it worked/didn't work. It invariably seems to be the latter! I would love to get out to the threatre more to see some of my favourite plays performed.
Hope to see you all around the forum!
:-)
..I had initially become interested when I had chanced upon this neighborhood of blogging comrades and chanced upon a discussion forum about Abbadon. Even though many of the theories were imaginative and interesting, the truth about Abbadon is that, in Revalation, the Angel that is Abbadon is a title, not a name, and that title describes Jesus' power given to him at the appointed time that he received the "keys to life and death itself" in which he now posseses the power to oust Satan from heaven and Satan is now limited to the confines of earth, "possesing great anger, knowing he hath but a short period of time". Jesus also has possesion of the power to eventually destroy both Satan and his demons in Armageddon. Abbadon is not a fallen angel, nor a rogue, but is Jesus come to power and possesing great authority given him by his Father, God (Jehovah... Psalms 83:18) Revalation speaks of this angel casting Satan and his demons out of heaven... so how can he be in cahoots with him? Also, all "rogue" angels in defiance of God are called Demons. The title Abaddon is a description of one of the many offices and abilities the Lord acquired when he took his throne. Also, in Ezekiel, you will find that Satan was once a holy, high-ranking covering cherub, who became Satan in the Garden of Eden because he desired the worship of man.
Hello, I am beno. A newbie in many senses. I am an undergrad student in Puerto Rico currently finishing a B.A. in Second Language Acquisition and another in Literature. Much like Virgil (granted not as radical as the engineer/literature combo) I was torn between the practicality of an Education degree as opposed to the joy of a literature degree so i went for both. Ultimately the amalgamation of both degrees should prove helpful in the classroom. I hope. About my background, I was born with a book in one hand and a pencil in the other. Sadly, this left me with my hands full and i had to pass on other things, namely a grasp on reality. Responsibility. I am the type of person that will disappear with a book, a pen and a pad, not to be seen for a few days. Aloof. I love to debate, playing the devil's advocate so often that Im now on retainer. I enjoy people who truly believe in what they say and defend it.Tactfully. Always up for a discussion. Im proud to say that the t.v. that I bought last September (2008) has yet to see a minute of scheduled programming. I nearly had a heart attack last night when i saw a trailer for Where the Wild Things Are. I try to stay away from television, but randomly; at friend's houses i'll catch a peek. Its never good... I do however watch movies and play video games. People have often mocked me for my hypocrisy (no to tv but yes to games and movies) Movies have somehow retained a resemblance to an artform, and every so often a movie comes along that moves me. As far as video games go, I am a huge fan. Video Games are our last chance to get kids back into literature. (i know im going to catch a lot of flack for this comment but im more than willing to explain myself. Just ask... be nice:nod:) Dont get me wrong... take your kid outside ad give him some books THAT YOU HAVE READ and discuss them with him/her all while maintaining an active lifestyle. Eventually, when you come back home, and he/she is done reading, and tired and bored and hungry and antsy and hovering, dont give him/her the tv remote... give them an RPG (thats a role playing video game, not a missile launcher)
wow... its amazing how eratic and verbose I can be...
in any case I look forward to foruming (lol) with you in a more structured manner, perhaps then Ill make a little more sense. No promises though.
hello all! my name is paulina and i stumbled upon this place while searching stuff about shakespeare villains for fun. i live in california and i'm in college studying to become an archaeologist. i like to read a lot of classic literature, especially austen, shakespeare's sonnets, and anything written by neil gaiman. my love of reading started when i read harry potter at the age of 11. i can't wait to learn about more books to read from this forum!
Hello everyone! I'm Michelle and I'm very pleased to have stumbled upon a forum of my interests that appears to be worth it's weight in Zeros and Ones! Let's see... anything about myself worth sharing... I'm 17 years old and have been writing on and off for years. Over time it's become my greatest and most fulfilling passion and I do it nearly all the time. I mainly dabble in novels and short stories, often writing fanfictions of some kind when the dreaded Writer's Block is plaguing me. But I digress, I look forward to my time here on this forum and eagerly anticipate speaking with other literary fans about topics that seem rarely discussed in this day and age. It will be nice getting to speak with a lot of you!
Yo peoples,
Im a high school student currently a few weeks from my end of year exams. I love books, and I want to learn more about them; especially Ancient Greek literature. I AM SO GLAD I FOUND THIS SITE!!!!! It seems to be the exact thing I'm looking for; a site that is for booklovers, by booklovers.:cool::cool:
Hello all,
This looks like a great forum. I'm 38 and work as a head writer for a sketch comedy and rock n' roll club in Columbus Ohio. I'm an avid reader - graduated college as an English major. Can't wait to join in the discussions!
Greetings everybody, I am so happy to be here! My name doesn't matter, I say, because it's pretty ugly, but I am generally called "Cabbage" (>.< ugly surname)
I came here from disappointment from other sites, in desire to find a place where I could find a chance to become a better artist and writer, without changing my profiles all day long!
Personally, I hope you guys won't find me weird or boring, everybody is different on this world.
Anyway, I forgot to tell you more about me.
I come from Constanta, in the south east of Romania, but I do not really like the sunlight (I'M A VAMPIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......................... no way, kidding) and I am 13, studying in 7th grade (here school starts from 6 or 7 years old), and living with my parents. Graduated in boredom; that's what my classmates say about me, but I don't care and act I'm stupid. I am happy-go-lucky but a little introverted, and I WISH I were more independent! Poor wishes! I am bookworm, and love school. My favourite school subjects are maths, physics, English, French, Romanian, biology........ anything but sport :eek2: who the hell invented that?!
I love art and music too, composer: Chopin, band: anything metal/ goth and singer: well, a lot, Mariah Carey, Madonna, and as painters.. marmee! they're so many!!!!!!! You've got to reply though to know my preferences in art and literature!
Thank you for the attention and cheers to you all!
I love the Firefly quote. I miss them!

hey everyone! I'm 18 and i'm from India. Stumbled upon this site a year or so ago but registered only today..well better late than never!! I love to read but unfortunately we dont have much exposure to good literature here so i'm really excited to start exploring :D
Hey I'm Sam, from UK.
22 years old, and always loved books, but until now was far too lazy to actually take the time out to read extensively.
Les Miserables was the first book I chose to read 'seriously' and actually pay attention to, rather than just reading to send me to sleep on a night :)
It's now my favourite book.
Other than that I love The Brothers Karamazov, anything by Thomas Hardy and Jane Austen. 1984's a favourite as well.
Really into the classics at the moment, but would appreciate some tips for more modern literature that follows my taste for dire and thoughtful prose :)
Mainly like books that focus on society, and how it affects personal relationships and peoples lives.
Now I sound like a bore, so I'll try and redeem myself by saying that i pass my spare time with photography, music, friends and cosy drinking establishments, preferably all at the same time :)
Hi, my name is Peter. I live in London, and am studying Literature for A-Level, along with mechanics, philosophy, and history. Writing has always been quite a large part of my life, whether it be through poetry or prose. I also play guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard (everything except singing haha) and am in a couple of bands.
welcome to the forum peter. :)
Hi, I'm a fiction writer and podcaster living in Brooklyn, NY with my pet goldfish, Fred. I've been doing some audiobook-style podcasts of public domain literature on my website, and I've been really enjoying re-reading some of these works, many of which I hadn't read since college.
I look forward to participating in some lively discussion here on the forums!

Hello everybody. I’m a British photojournalist and translator. I translate poetry from Spanish into English and vice versa. From French and Italian into English and Spanish. I never use pseudonyms. By now you must have guessed that I have two mother tongues (American Indians would call me a forked tongue).
I have translated a great Salvadoran poet, Roque Dalton, into English (one hundred poems) but due to family squabbling over copyright (he was murdered in 1975, the same year another great poet was murdered: P. P. Pasolini) I am not able to publish the book.
I have also translated other Latin American poets into English but I don’t know if it is possible to publish a book. I look for the way things will turn out spiralling from a chaotic world. I hope this forum will help the interchange of literature from different countries and cultures. I believe that is the purpose of translation.
I just joined to day in my computer class! I'm supposed to be taking notes on new technologies, but this is more interesting. And worthwhile. Anyways, hoping to establish myself as a young dark-fantasy writer, I've already finished my first short story last night.
"Come away, O child"... I remember that poem. It was rather sad.
Hello, I'm a teenager and an aspiring (hopefully!) author. I'm very very artistic and distracted easily by pretty colors and interesting sounds. I absolutely can't wait to share my stories with other people all over the world!
I've started two or three novels but stopped writing all of them at around chapter Five. I am in the middle of writing a story called Flick that's based loosly on my experiences with self-infliction.
Aside from writing, I love to draw, take pictures, listen to music, sing, and pretty much do anything creative. I recently stumbled into the rather confusing world of adult literature and am loving it. I'm participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in order to try and actually finish what I start.
I can't wait to read some stories posted by the users here!

HI There
I am new to this forum.... stumbbled on it this afternoon while looking for information on poetry and how to read and understand it.
I am curretnly studying a BA in Communication Science part time as I work during the day full time as an office manager for an Investment company.
I love poetery but i am so clueless when it come ti understanding it and therfore i feel I am missing out on a very special side of literature. One of my subjects in English literature and one aspect of it is reading and deciphering poetry.
Some of my hobboes include reading, scrapbooking sketching etc but these days i find I have not time to allocate to hobbies with work and studying.
Hello!
This is the obligatory introduction post. I am...
a writer, I believe, although unpublished, and I don't anymore write every single day, which I believe to be necessary. I've attended graduate school for classical languages (Latin and Greek). I taught Latin for a year to college students and another year to middle schoolers (11-14 year olds), which was awful.
Now I'm taking courses in English and a fiction workshop, dabbling in freelance copywriting for money, and eating lots of rice.
Authors? Oh, I'm a big fan of Russians. I enjoy the grotesque and black humour in literature as well as "magical realism." Authors I've read or are reading recently whom I loved include Tolstoi (fave), Borges, Gogol, Dostoevski.
hope u all are f9
hi...everyone..i'm eva 32 years old, from jakarta, Indonesia...i just got an assignment to analyze english poetry..and idont know what to do..any ideas??? maybe we can start with the simplest poem taht i can analyze..but, any tricks or steps in analyzing poetry??? thanx
Hi, I am Anna. 19 years old. I am student at local language university. I write poetry and prose both in English and Russian (I am Russian though). My works were never published. Now I am writing a story called "Web" – I hope that it'll come out to be a good one. Came here because I was assigned to make a translation of a poem, which I don't know how to analyze first, I am really good at writing but analyzing is not my thing. It is – The shape of Nothing Happening by Patrick McGuinness. Thanks for listening ( if you did)
