New to the site from Istanbul
Hi Everyone on this wonderful website and forum. I live in Istanbul and presently teach at a high school there to grade 9s, 11s and Drama. I love most literature but my favourite book of all time has to be 1984. I also adore anything Steinbeck and favour a bit of Freddy from Bohemia. Look forward to being an avid poster, and thanks for letting me join
Greetings from a Mozart Researcher/Writer
Greetings,
I am a music writer/researcher deeply involved in a highly controversial book on the life, career and musical reputation of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). I am specially interested in the literary relationship between the dominant role of the Jesuit Order prior to 1773 and the rise of the epoch known as the 'Englightenment'. Since, it seems to me from many sources that to some extent the Jesuit Order, despite dominating schools, colleges, publishing, and censorship in the Holy Roman Empire (virtually up until 1773) were definitely pioneers of that later cultural era known as the 'Enlightenment' and that they, after 1773, pursued a secular strategy with Voltaire, Rousseau, Mozart and others up until their restoration in 1814.
The relationships are far too strong to ignore this strong possibility - that, to some extent at least, the rise of the 'Englightenment' was a strategy forumulated by the same Jesuit Order, using, of course, men such Rousseau and Voltaire, Mozart and others.
The links between Englightenment figures such as Baron Grimm (to name only one of dozens) are too great to dismiss this. Grimm being (as you may know) the Paris patron of Mozart during his visit there in 1778.
In short, I am very interested in Mozart and the background to the 'Enlightenment'.
The name of my forthcoming book may speak for itself -
'The Manufacture of Mozart'.
