Hi Poetess! How are ye?
Shakespeare was a hack.
:p
:( I wuv me shakespeare...... perhaps you just dont understand the language well enough pensive? Thats a common reason for people not liking him.....
I can not even imagine a universe in which King Lear is boring. It is as if someone had declared that there is no gravity.;)
I do not agree with Howard Bloom's every word but his book on Shakespeare was absolutely fascinating and it affirmed the experience I have when reading him.
I have not read that book about Shakespeare. But i agree with you ghideon, to me Shakespeare exemplifies the human condition as a whole. I did not realize how in the midst of so many human faults there is a vibrant spark of beauty of sincerity. Who else can portray this in such a way as Shakespeare? The content of his plays embody every weakness and imperfection of man, yet he verses them in such a perfect, mellifluous way that we seem to rejoice in and be entertained by our follies.
hey do we have a whole class joined or what?? well whatever hello , I guess I ough to go check the thinngy subforum
Shakespearian language - I agree is difficult to comprehend but then what are dictionaries for? :p
I don't like his works because they are never precise and concise. He just wasted time in writing three sentences for showing the love of Romeo for Juliet which he could have done in a single sentence.
In Romeo and Juliet, I just found his writing style focusing too much on dialogues concerning "beauty of the heroine" and "love" (or shall I call it lust) It got really irritating for me to keep on reading the whole thing when he was saying the same thing again and again; of course, the words were different and well choosen, especially the comparison of her with flowers, blah blah blah, but they all meant the same thing which was that to Romeo, Juliet was the prettiest girl that ever existed on earth.
I think that many people like him because he touches the topic "love between a man and a woman" or shall I call it lust? It is something they do like to have a belief in and find it fascinating. Oh well, everyone has a right to have his own believes. But Shakespearian style and his works are just not my cup of tea.
Hey Pensive, gouging eyes out not your thing? ;) :p
ahh...gouging and eyes...be there a more pirate like phrase?:D
Hiya! I might sound harsh but crying for Shakespearian plays isn't really my thing. Emotions just don't over-come me when reading his stuff. If one wants to read a tear jerker, there is there is always Wuthering Heights or A Bridge to Terabithia or A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Even Harry Potter series can be called a real tear-jerket, well at least I found it so...
Ah, why did Dumbledore has to die? :( '
Hey Jay, what do you reckon about the seventh part by the way? Do you find the title of the book revealing much? :)
Revealing? Haven't read it yet! :D
All those theories I read on a website about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows made me feel that the book was in my hands already. :p
1: Harry goes to Godric Hollows.
2: Harry discovers "Hallows", some sort of creature over there.
3: One of these creatures is a horcrux
4: Harry destroys the horcrux and defeats the Dark Lord
Can't it make up a good fanfiction? :p
Spoilers are always fun, so are the speculations ;)
erhem, that's an interesting observation. Never thought about it that way.
I love Shakespeare and I love his language, but somehow the deeper meanings often escape me because my brain has to spend so much capacity on decoding the language :)
So I suppose I'm somewhere in between Pensy and drama?
Where are he and she who must not be named?
