"A River Runs Through It" Directed by Robert Redford.
Yes, it is about fly-fishing - how exciting can that be right? But the film is about a lot more than that, about a family of two boys quite different from each other. It is a coming of age, family ties sort of film and has a lot of feeling and heart and interesting characters. The area of Montana on the river where some of the film takes place is magnificent. Makes one want to go there. Plus it is a period piece and will take you back to a different era of speak easys and prohibition, slower life styles and close friends one grew up with. Very Americana, but realistic. I like the simple, but sensitive narration by Robert Redford. This film has a few surprises in it. It is somewhat slowpaced, but lovely and meaningful, with good closeup shots of the actors faces and expressions. Humor is sprinkled throughout and some scenes are quite funny. Brad Pitt is so handsome, actually beautiful in this film, standing in the bright sunlight of the river. He was younger and it is quite a different role than his meatier ones playing in "Troy" and "12 Monkeys". I like his character very much, because it keeps you wondering. He has some very good subtle facial expressions and you can't help but like him, or even love him, as his brother does. The film is about the ties that bind and the relationship of two brothers to sum it all up. I loved the ending....very profound...be sure and listen to the words. You need to listen to all the narration, as it is a key element in the film. I would give it a 10/10, but that is my own individual taste and preference. I enjoyed it after seeing it several times. I had been thinking about the film and wanting to watch it again of late. Glad I did.

Not the first time I have seen it, though I love it more and more everytime I see it..
I think Johnny Depp gives an amazing performance, as usual..I think he is a gifted actor and this is the first time in his career that it really shows.. I give it 10 out of 10... Love, Love , Love it
Domer121, I did not fully get this film, The Princess Bride", when I saw it. I know it is a satire and I must watch it again. It was so silly, but it is fun and the giant is interesting - that is Andre the Giant - he was famous, but is now deceased. He is also in 'Big Fish". I saw a special program about him. He was an amazing person. My library owns this DVD, so I will put it on my list of second watchings. Give the film another chance.[/QUOTE]
I guess the only reason why I enjoyed this film so much is the fact that it is so unexpected.. a breathe of fresh air, much like Little Miss Sunshine,etc...I think you should give it another go, though I am aware my taste in film is much differant than other people...hope you like it :yawnb:
Domer, Yes, everyone raves over this film. I must give it another go. It was funny to me in parts but sometimes too much funny stuff gets tiresome to me. I know it was well done and everything. One of these days I will watch again. I don't care to watch "Little Miss Sunshine". I would consider it a waste of time - there are too many other films I would rather see now. But to each his own in individual taste. Some people prefer satire and comedy and others serious and even tragedies. Guess, I tend to be the later set.
I saw Half Nelson last evening. Not quite what i expected but Ryan Gosling made a great role. I would definitely give it an 8.
Domer, Oh, I love "Edward Scissorhands". I even own the film. It is really crazy, well it is a Tim Burton film, and offbeat - Depp it great in it. He really cracks me up! I love the beginning when his father gave him the heart shaped cookie. That was so sweet and meaningful. Yes, the end is a bit corny, and I was not sure about Ryder being aged, if that really worked, but it still worked well enough for me. I love the scene when Edward is cutting all the dogs' hair in the neighborhood. How great is that? I laughed and laughed.Quote:

N, so sorry you are sick, too. I hate to tell you, but it gets worse. Now it is all congestion in my head, my nose would not stop running last night, and I feel totally weak. My son and sister reported same symptoms a few weeks back. I did go to doctor and got an antibiotic - who knows if that will work?
I could not sleep last two nights, too restless and achy and had to stay in bed, so I ended up reading a book - "Brave New World" - read it yrs ago, quite interesting. Does anyone know - did they ever make a movie out of it? It sure would be a good one. I wondered, too, if the book "Island" by Audoux Huxley was made into a film. There was a film out about 2 yrs ago with Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson called "The Island"; it was sci-fi futuristic, also. Was this film based on Huxley's book, anyone know?
I thought "A River Runs Through It" was a fine film and I found the relationship of the two boys and the father so touching, as well. I really love the film the more I think of it. It took me years to see it, I thought it would not be very good, but I was certainly way off in my predictions....a terrific film with good performances by all. Must have been something to see on a big screen. Scenes on the river were lovely.

I have been able to trace even the most obscure movies. The database of the site is huge. In fact i would be surprised if i couldn't find a film i know in there. You can search with every possible way. It has a lot of information about everything. The interesting part is that you can vote for each film you watch and you can create your own log. It has also reviews, lots of them from different people.
