that is too cute ravana. i guess I will refrain from calling you that as much as possible, but if i do, its your own fault for putting the idea in my head...
oh btw, did you know that Oscar Wilde wrote a poem called Ravanna? was actually quite good. i'll see if i can find it for you....
ajoe-- you mean him: :brow: :brow: :brow: :brow: :brow: :brow: :brow: :brow: ????
What's so annoying about that? ;)
Hmm... it took me 5 meetings with my writing tutor before I realized when he said, "This is good" he was just being nice and what he meant was, "You STINK."
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear VB.MOM,(you know I wonder your son's name)
Oscar Wild and Ravanna?!
It sounds so interesting. I'm already starting really think that my name has espesially meaning in Europe. you can't picture my curiousity. I'll be very thankfull to you for that poem.
oh, ravana my son's name is Patrick (which, btw, he cant wait to change, when he gets to be legal age). and the poem is called ravenna, not ravanna, sorry. but here it is:
http://www.neuroticpoets.com/wilde/ravenna.shtml
actually the neurotic poets website is pretty good anyhow, worth browsing around!
Sounds like Ravenna is a town in Italy. Could it be the same place Koa mentioned, just spelled differently? (Or was it you, Ravana, who mentioned it? Sorry, I can't remember. :p)
I'm unable to study.
This is bad.
i'm trying to deconstruct and reconstruct the living room, kitchen, and loo where i live. (at this point, in my head.) my bf just said everything has to be rearranged, and he's right. it feels like playing babble, only 3-D...
The name of the "These are people who I think deserve to die" thread still makes me uncomfortable whenever I see it.
YES
*10cr
I figured out why it accepts 9 characters: it doesn't.
^^^^^ a space between the lines counts as 1.
It frightens me that you spend time finding out how to say the least possible in a post.
Just a winky little forum epiphany. Az wondered on another thread why it accepted
yes!
s10cr
as a post, since there were only 9 characters. I said I just realized that the return/enter to begin a new line must count as one character.
Sure, your just making excuses, admit your addiction and you will then be on the road to a cure. And don't disillusion yourself further by saying you don't want to be cured, that is merely a fallacy, a self denial.
Yep and yep.
So there. :p
Has anyone realized Reagan is dead? It's freaky cause I'm currently reading about what he had done for the country. And my final is Tuesday. Wish me luck!!!
I'm amazed I actually know what synclines and anticlines are.
Dammit, I have one day left and I still have 400 pages to read. I hate reading. :(
Ah the bane of the intellect.
Stop Wasting Timeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
do read his speech directly after the shuttle blew up. very interesting. also, what he did for homeless persons. yes, he did a lot.
Read this sentence
em, you're right. Of course Wilde wrote about Italy's Ravenna, not about me. :lol:Quote:

Adieu, Ravenna!
Adieu! Adieu! yon silver lamp, the moon,
Which turns our midnight into perfect noon,
Doth surely light thy towers, guarding well
Where Dante sleeps, where Byron loved to dwell.
Ravenna inspired O.Wilde to write whole poem about it ( "O much-loved city!) This and the names of Dante and Byron already make it more important.
Great thanks V.B.MOM! That's cool site. I have never heard about Rossetty, Dickinson, Plath, Shelley.Quote:

Can I take some your advice? How does 'Banu' sound in English? Does it remind Indian name?
Doesn't George Bush waffle! Although I don't live in America, we seem in England to get to hear a lot of his speeches..cos he does speech an awful lot doesn't he...and on and on and on! Is anyone awake in America when he has finished? I think he just loves the sound of his own voice..and he's so sentimental! I guess they use an awful lot of hankies in the white house. Do you have 'hankies' in America?
I don't know anything about his sentimentality. But he has all reasons to love the sound of his own voice. I also find it nice.
For waffle I have to have a look at a dictionary.
Argh! Don't get me started on Georgie Girl!Quote:

Absolutely.
I think Banu is a lovely name too, btw. It sounds exotic, because it isn't a common sound to hear in English. As with any name, though, whether that's good or bad depends on the feelings of the person named. I think it sounds elegant and mysterious. :)
re: the shrub's (little bush's) voice, i find it THE most grating on the planet; i have to turn the radio to a different station if i hear it for more than 10 seconds.
You last ten seconds? Superwoman! :p
[edit]: P.S. Danger. Danger. Abort political discussion!
Has there ever been given consideration to opening a "political discussion" forum on the site?Quote:

No I don't mean your choice is a pity, I mean the admin's refusal to consider contemporary political discussion is a pity - even within the context of lit. After all, if you can't discuss Thoreau's "On the Duty of Civil Disobedience" in the current political climate, with a new draft potentially coming, what's the point?Quote:

But as a general rule, I think it does help to preserve civility within the forums. Discussing the politics of civil disobedience in reference to Thoreau would come under "except relating to lit." But, for instance, a General Chat thread of "For or Against the War" would most definitely NOT.
Hey I never meant to lead to the political..talking about George Bush..I dont understand American politics anyway - but I reckon Mr Bush is good at telling bedtime stories..have the kids asleep in no time, and everyone else. I really am surprised that discussing religion is allowed on here (though I am glad that it is) when politics isn't allowed because in my experience people can get as heated..and perhaps even more heated discussing religion as they do discussing politics. I've found the worst places for argument are Christian discussion lists. I avoid them now as I find many people have closed minds not given to considering other points of view or even allowing them. Perhaps political discussion gets to be the same? Does any one know any good, friendly places for general discussion on the internet?
good at telling BEDTIME STORIES..."and everyone else"? not sure where you're coming from.
again, Admin has discussed the religion vs. politics issue in other threads.
