Hardcovered books, though they tend to take up more space, have a lot more resilience against damage, such as from liquids, floor collisions, or anything else my clumsiness connives.

Hmm, well I would probably consider both of them the same. But I would go for amusement, as play can sometimes get monotonous (and loud in some households).
