I write poems every now and then but I'm never brave enough to let anyone I know read it so I decided to find a forum where full of strangers :lol: where I could publish them and hopefully get a bit of constuctive criticism.

Well...

I enjoy classics, like Sherlock Holmes and such. Unfortunately, many of the people I know do not. It's sad to see such wonderful writing be lost to a culture of pop music and slang. Many of the people I know do not even like to read. There are to many electronic distractions in this world. but I am not suggesting that I don't like the concept of electronics. There is information to be found on them, it is easier to write.

I am fond of music. Classical, (some) jazz, and musicals. I just dislike modern music. I was brought up that way.

I'm Alex from Romania. I've always loved reading, but this is the first time I've registered to a literature forum.
I read mostly classics, but I can enjoy almost any novel, really.
I love films too.
I'm not much of a poetry reader though.
I study foreign languages at Uni: English, Spanish and Russian. I've also studied French for a few years in school, but can't remember much of it, unfortunately.

Whilst Googling for an image of Jules Verne for my computer I came across this and thought I should join as I also have an interest in Alexandre Dumas (and you can probably guess which book I am most interested in). Most people online say they got interested in an author due to a stage play, a film or even a television series. I seem to be the only one who got interested by means of a cartoon series animated by the Japanese, made by the Spanish and whose lead character was voiced by the person who did the voice for He-Man in 2002!

Hello everybody,

At the moment I'm doing a big study of the tarot and kabbalah. I bumped into this forum and I noticed that the topics go a bit deeper than the Dutch forums I visited until now. I'm from Holland and writing a book in Dutch about Tarot and Kabbalah because in the Netherlands there's nothing written that's really good for people that are interested in the subject(s ).

Of course my book is heavily influenced by the Book of Thoth from Aleister Crowley (of which I'm very fond as you may notice). The book of Thoth is the best book about the Thoth Tarot obviously, but I'm busy to write the very deep meanings in the book in a more easy-to-read style without losing the depth of the words of Aleister Crowley. Quite a job I must say. A very helpful book to maken the symbolism easier understandable is The Qabalistic Tarot of Robert Wang. So, I'm making great progress thanks to those two masterpieces.
The only things I keep staring at is the infinite meanings of the symbolism in the cards. It's easy to name them or to add a proper meaning to them, but before you find the right words to keep it 'simple' without making the mistake to profanize the sacred symbolism... that's not easy. Even if you feel the symbols, it's not that you know them... and vice versa.

So, the reason for me to join this forum is for getting a little help with the tarot cards and hopefully give help if there are any questions about the tarot. Of course I'm looking forward getting to know you all and who knows which other subjects I stumble into on this forum.

I don't bite....Well I promise not to leave any visible marks anyway!!! A dreamer with the soul of a poet, the heart of a lover; a strolling minstral and gentle heart out of context with the bitter and cruel world he no longer understands nor cares to, and man should be somewhere else, who wants to be somewhere else, who will be somewhere else with God's grace.

My faves are Shakespeare, Dickens, Trollope, Poe, all the classics really. Love detective books and poetry, especailly the romantics -Byron, Keats, Wordsworth, Shelly, Blake and all the other guys in the band. Also Bill Bryson, a true anglophile. Things that make me think, with political or social comment.

My hobbies and interests include: Raeding, Writing, Cars, Racing, Photography, Football, Rugby, Cricket, La belle femme, what do you expect I'm a man! Music in many forms and Old Movies.

I've come here to occasionally put some of my scribblings out there, mainly poetry. It's not to find any kind of acceptance, what comes out of me is usually highly personal but it would be nice to know it's somewhere :)

Hello! I stumbled across this place while looking up some Shakespeare thingums... looks quite interesting.

I'm doing a degree in English Literature (God help me, I'm a finalist), which I hope to turn into a masters, and then a doctorate. I specialise in Medieval Literature, but really like anything, apart from modern stuff (Evelyn Waugh was the last great writer, as far as I am concerned).

I'm currently reading Kormaks saga, some very random (but very enjoyable) Anglo-Norman hagiography, and The Merchant of Venice for something a little bit different.

Umm, so I am semi-studying to become a teacher of the High School English persuasion. I felt ill prepared leaving high school and entering college so I thought perhaps I should become a teacher to help point students who would usually not care about anything after high school towards something better in their life. I also believe in the power of words and writing, I use it as a therapy and believe if students can get in touch with their creativity in any way, it will make a better world...I don't know.

I also figured being a teacher would allow me to travel in the summer time and work on writing and possibly any novels that I may want to write.

Yes... I'd go on this website a lot... so I want to write in forums too! My name is Mira, I'm going to finish my IGCSEs in a few months (I'm scared :s) then I'm going to do A-Level, go to college, get a good job, and earn some money.
And once I have enough funds I'm going to start a reading campaign to improve adult literacy rates throughout the world (it's 27% in Mali! In 2008!) putting to better use the second-hand books that people usually throw away. And then I'll make a research centre that discovers better ways to build wheelchairs and other facilities for disabled people, and also expanding their options for leisure and social activities, and then if I have time I'll start classes teaching children philosophy and political subjects, raising awareness to the world around them. But I need to pass my IGCSEs first. :)

I found this forum a couple of weeks ago, I've been reading the Steinbeck thread and just couldn't resist the temptation any longer. :)

I'm from Sweden and for the moment I'm studying English D, meaning its my fourth term of English studies and the first term only dealing with English literature.
