Anyone for Coffee? (no boys allowed)

Those shoes are nice enough, but definitely not worth three million dollars! Okay, with diamonds they might actually be worth quite a lot, but why on earth should one put real diamonds on a pair of shoes? Surely some cheaper or even fake gem would have worked the same... No one's going to take a closer look at them anyway.

What about dresses? Now the winter is over and it's getting warm again, so one can actually go out in a dress without freezing to death.

I bought a lovely new casual dress last week - as anyone who has looked at my profile page could guess, it's in my favourite colour, blue with some white in it. I couldn't find a photo of the dress on H&M's website, so I took a photo of my own. Sorry about the bad quality, I only have a webcam...

I am always dropping toilet paper rolls into the toilet. I swing around and catch hold of them on the holder. What a mess it is to fish those out - they definitely won't go down with a flush. Toilet paper here is not cheap either.

I recently dropped a watch in some dirt and decided to rinse it off. It was just a fashion watch with a white band. Still I liked it and kept it by my bedside; used it as a clock. I woke up and it was probably 4, but my watch said 2. I went to bed after 2 - what the heck? I then noticed all the little numbers must have been glued on and they all fell off inside the watch. I had to laugh. I have washed off my Timex watches many times and they survived, even if they got a mist or moisture in them. I think a few even went through the washer and dryer....the watch that keeps on ticking....:lol:

Hope your pretty watch is ok, Niamh. I really love that design. No way, *C*C would I fish anything out of a porta potty - yuk!

Annamirah, that dress is so cute...you look great in it. I love dresses myself. I can't wait to wear my sundresses again - so comfortable in the summer.

The price of those shoes is ridiculous. Think of all the starving children that would feed.

I am trying not to buy any summer clothes - I keep a 'travel wardrobe' for trips to warmer climes, everything in shades of blue so it all matches and cuts down on the packing. I've had my 'summer' holiday for this year (Egypt in February) so I really do not need anything this year and 'summer' is a relative term in wet Wales - but my favourite catalogue people have a new panel dress (very flattering on us Junoesque ladies) and I do like it so much......

I recently got myself a nice blue paisley maxi dress. :nod: wore it last sat for my dads birthday. so somfortable. Its so nice to be able to wear a dress like that casually.

JuniperWoolf: That's a nice skirt! I might like one myself. The only trouble with full-lenght dresses is that I'm rather short, so it's hard to find one that is full-lenght without being so long it makes me trip over the hem :D

I like that peasant skirt but I've seen some peasant skirts that are just downright dowdy so you have to be careful. The one in the picture is cool. i don't own a peasant skirt myself because I haven't seen any around here that are cool when I'm in the market for a skirt like that. It seems like everytime I go out with the intention of buying a peasant skirt, they all look more hillbillly than gypsy peasant so I don't buy them. Maybe it's just because the stores here suck.

Oh, and I bought another Maxi dress this week - I LOVE it. But since I am real short I had to get it out of the petite section and they only had a few patterns and I managed to get the last one in my size that I could actually wear. They had about 5 different patterns/prints of Maxi dresses in the petite section at this store but 3 of them had these padded boob tops that do not work out with my frame. And then the other print looked like something Ms. Roper would have worn. It was a hideous hot pink, black, orange and white flowery ugly fugly thing with a big flowery gemstone on the top :ack2: It's probably better that they didn't have more patterns because I would have ended up with five maxi dresses instead of 1. It's no fair though - in the section of the store for "normal" sized people, they always have more to choose from. It's no fair. It's discrimination against the short.

But the one I got is some green and black trippy pattern that you could get lost in. I wore it to work and had to wear a sweater shrug thing over it because of the boob factor and with the sweater it made me look like i had a big butt though the way the lines went. Man I am rambling rambling and nobody cares.

I guess the point of all this is that it's really hard to find decent clothes. You get something and it should work, but if it's cut wrong or something it just doesn't wear right.

Shalot - I can sympathetize, it IS hard to find decent clothes if you are shorter than average, have bigger boobs than average, have shorter midriff than average and so on. (By the way, who ARE the average? I find many clothes are designed for a really weird-shaped body...) And I love your choice of smiley after the description of that print :lol:

I bought that same dress from H & M the other day but in denim. We've obviously got good taste Annamariah.

my H&M sucks! Went in to see if i could find that dress but nope! Not there! No surprise seeing as H&M over here sucks for some reason.

Cute dress Anna, and Juniper, I love that skirt. I've been fancying the full length sundresses that I've seen around here, but they are not made for girls with as big a cup size as me. Something that would look flirty and cute on someone smaller is borderline hooker wear on me :( I'm still looking for one, but I may just end up making one or two.

I really love this, but it's certainly out :(

Mkhockenberry: The first one is definitely out for anyone with a big cup size - an extra frill on the top sure adds volume... I like the blue dress :) I'm sure it would look great, V-shaped neckline is much more flattering than the frill of the first dress.

about that top dress - how does anyone wear those big boobed or not? They look they'd just slide right down or else you'd be pulling it up all day. Clothes have to be functional as well. That's what bugs me about some of the things they sell.

I agree with you about that you don't want to spend all the time correcting your clothing, or you won't feel comfortable, and if you're not comfortable, you don't look good no matter how nice clothes you are wearing.

Strapless tops don't necessarily need any help staying in place, if the "neckline" is tight enough, because then breasts help keeping the garment up. Wearing a belt helps too. I have one self-made tube top, and I haven't had any problems staying inside it (haven't even had to wear a belt to keep it from sliding down) :p

I thought the same about the top one :) It's cute, but not for me. I'm less worried about accentuating things, and far more worried about indecent exposure :lol:

Shalot - I've never had issues keeping something strapless up, but anything with a defined "space" for your breast is sure to cause issues. I have the same problem with wrap dresses and even sleeved peasant tops.

The bottom two should work. I also like the belted t-shirt dresses that are so popular at the moment. I think I just like dresses in general for warm weather. I'm not much into shorts, so they're how I stay cool in 90 + degree weather.

I never fit into any clothes that have a certain shape either... For example buttoned blouses: If they fit on the waist, I can't button the top part because my chest simply won't fit in. If they fit on the chest, I look like I'm pregnant or something. Also if they fit on the waist, my shoulders probably look a bit hunched, because I have a too short midriff for most shirts and jackets! And a fitted dress that fits both at the top and the bottom is certain to have extra wrinkles on my waist because of said short midriff :p So a dress or a top that only fits right below the breasts is often the best solution for me. An empire style waist, I mean :)

you should look into getting a maxi then. :nod: I felt so summery in mine and the lightness of the fabric meant i was cool.

:lol: I keep wondering who it is that they make clothes for. My issue is always the breasts. I'm a 34 D, and they're high set as well. A normal V neck on something can be darn near obscene on me. Button down shirts are on my list of things to not even consider. I'll agree that the empire waist normally works best, but it certainly gets boring to wear. It is also a bit hard to find at the moment when the wrap look or crossed V in the front are so popular

Niamh - I'm dead set on it now, because that dress is really great. I'm going to go try the maxi, and hopefully the front isn't too low. I just wish they had more than blue. Normally I'll pick up 2-3 of something I like in different colors. I'm super picky about how things fit, so I tend to buy it in all the colors they offer :D

Well, if it makes you guys feel any better, those of us at the opposite end of the spectrum have problems too! Most clothes that fit the stomach and waist are too big around the chest. And it's very difficult to fit anything that's in any way gathered or shaped already. Know what I mean? Again, the winner is the empire waist, especially if it sort of flows out below, because it fits and emphasizes the chest without having to perfectly fit anywhere else.

Even worse than the top issue though is the bottom. I'm sort of disproportionate, so anything that fits my hips and thighs is way too big around my waist. Low-waisted pants are the only things that fit because they don't go up high enough to be too big for my waist.

Dresses like the ones you guys have put up ics of would make me look like I have no body haha

ick, she looks like the walking dead. That has to be totally unhealthy and I find nothing at all attractive about her body. It's disgusting looking.

I have the same problem, but backwards to most of you. I am more pear shaped now, so shirts or tops that fit me around the shoulders and breast won't button at the waist and hips. I gained way too much weight in the past 5 yrs. I do like the high waisted sundresses, because I can always layer over them a cute cardigan sweater or shirt unbuttoned and they hide my fat rolls. I like the one above with the ruffle on the breast. My upper body size is not large (in some things I can still wear a small) and so it adds a bit, which I can always use. They don't ever fall down on me; usually the elastic is pretty tight. Luckily at my age my shoulders and neck are still pretty smooth, so I can go strapless but I prefer the dress that Niamh posted with the tie for security. I have always thought halter dresses were very sexy and flatterin, too. They look good layered with a shirt or a jacket. I have very narrow shoulders so they help make my shoulders look a little broader.

I think it is interesting that we've all cited the same style as fitting and looking best, but there isn't more of that style out there. Why, if the raised (empire) waistline looks best on so many of us, do we not have more of those styles?

That's a good point. You might be right. Where I live (East Coast, USA) I have seen quite a number of highwaist dresses out. I saw many at the Target store the other day for summer. I am waiting for them to go onsale. Last year, I got quite a few of the longer ones on clearance. They are way too long for me so I plan on cutting them off knee length and I think I may have enough fabric to make a skirt from the bottom half. You can't beat that when I paid as little as 5.00 a dress. I just saw a Penny's folder and there were some high waisted dresses in there and some high waist tops. I hope they stay around a little while because my mid section has gotten unflattering. Forgot all those cute little knit tops with spandex in them for this year. I better walk and get back in shape.

I love peasants skirts, too. This one is really pretty; nice to have all 3 colors. I used to wear them all the time. I need to lose wt!!! :cryin: I have a dozen of these skirts and I would losen the waists but not sure they will still look good with my added pounds. I won't give them away though. I like them because they are casual and yet can be dressy too....very versatile.

I once was checking out of a store and the young woman waiting on me said her mother had a dress like I was buying and she called it her 'potato sack dress'. I thought - thanks a lot for telling me that. At anyrate, when I wore this linen dress, I got compliments. I took it in last year and now it doesn't fit me...figures...I should have left well enough alone.

Annamariah, Yes - they say you pay for quality; not that Timex watches are very expensive. However, my experience with them is that they do keep ticking no matter what you do to them. Usually the band wears out first, but it still tells perfect time.

mkhockenberry - I would prefer my curves as well to that model.

I'm really lucky, my momma's really tiny and my dad's huge so I'm right in the middle. Medium height, medium waist, medium bust. It's boring, but convenient... everything fits me. I have this friend though that has the exact proportions as a pear. She's teeny tiny up to about her diaphram, then she balloons right out. She's almost perfectly round down to her knees, then her calves and feet are itty bitty. It's the strangest thing. I know another girl who's a twig, and 6'4". I have no idea how either of them find clothing.

I put a belt at the empire line of my maxi to show curves. If i dont i look like a big busted fatso walking around wearing a tent. :blush:

Interestingly to me, I was talking to my husband about that picture. Keep in mind I'm the polar opposite of all the girls he's ever dated. I'm short all of 5'2'', curvy, and while I certainly don't consider myself fat I'm not skinny really either. He, and all the other guys I've ever asked, assure me that they really do prefer that. So if men prefer women to have a little meat and not look like they're starved, why is the female "idea" (obviously not for us :lol:) to be so skinny???
