I enjoy reading Literature & am looking for a group of people to discuss the books with. Currently, I am working my way through some of the 100 best book lists, picking and choosing as I go. I get a lot more out of these books in a forum setting. I am looking forward to this!

Hello there, everyone. I'm a quiet girl from northern England and stumbled upon this site quite by accident while doing research for Eng Lit homework. Pretty soon, research was forgotten and I was lost in the forums.
My two great loves are literature and music, and when not playing viola, I'm probably reading. I'll read just about anything, really, though I draw the line at the more obscure, experimental modern books. I love Jane Austen and Persuasion is my favourite, though it's closely followed by the Lord of the Rings trilogy, hence the picture. I'm also a bit of a Shakespeare obsessive, hence the name. Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and Henry V are a few particular favourites. The soundtrack to my life is mostly classical, particularly Beethoven and Elgar, and just about anything by Bach is great fun to play.
I'll avoid mentioning anything from the "real world", as my love of literature is mostly for the sake of escapism. What better than forgetting about coursework deadlines and rubbish weather for a few hours with a good book?
I'd love to be an author one day, though if that doesn't work out, a career in academia doing something English-related sounds good. Thanks for reading.:rolleyes:
Hi, name's Ammie. I came across this site today, and liked what I saw. Can't say I'm much for posting, but I will when there is a topic that arouses my interest, and opinions. I currently have no favorite book, for I love all books that I finish. As for favorite authors, well I'm at a loss for one as well. As for a brief summary on my personality, let's just say that I'm complicated, and not too keen on talking about myself, but love finding out about others.

This is my first post to say Hi. I am from England and currently studying for a degree in English Literature, so you will probally see me here a lot. Judging by the age poll, I fall into the older category and so can be classed as a "mature student." (That only applies to my age) A few years ago I decided a change in career was in order and became a teacher. I currently teach English language whilst at the samee time am in my second year at Uni, as I want to expand my teaching capacity. Apart from reading my biggest passion is keeping fish. I have a salt water tank, a tropical tank, a goldfish tank and a Koi pond. Due to mine and my wife's strange nature we shunned the option of living in a house and bought a boat, which we live on in central London.
I think that's enough of an introduction for now. More later

I am extremely interested in existentialism and would consider myself an existentialist, but I despise labels. I am also interested in the "Beat Generation" writers, namely William Burroughs, as well as Oscar Wilde, Albert Camus, Jean-Paul Sartre, Søren Kierkegaard and Friedrich Nietzsche. I'm glad to have found this board. I'm not sure how well I'll be able to keep up but at least I can finally chat some with people who have similar literary interests.
I am a second grade teacher in upstate NY (one of the only male teachers in my building). My favorite literary works are Oliver Twist, The Adventures of Tom Sawer, The Adv. of Huckleberry Finn, Peter Pan, among others. I've also made it partway through Les Miserable and am currently reading Treasure Island.

Hello all! This is my first day, so I'm a little nervous... I love to read, but I've had trouble finding others who like to read. Isn't that odd? I live in a rural area, so there really aren't any reading groups. The local library activities are geared toward kids, so that's not really an option. I live 50 miles from the closest bookstore, so you can see my dilemma. I do have a friend that reads, but she doesn't keep her books which confuses me because I horde books. Currently, I'm reading Twilight. My 16 year old niece gave it to me for Christmas. She loves the series, and it thrills me that she's reading. Although she picked up the reading habit in detention... So, I guess being tardy every other day isn't a bad thing. I host a Monday morning talk show called, ADM. So, if you've ever run through my mind on the first day of the work week, you've probably heard it. It usually runs 7:30 to 8:00 during my commute. On occasion, special guests are featured. This week it was Elvis. He works at the Louisville Slugger factory, which I find interesting. I asked him why, but we were interupted by an Amish buggy making a right-hand turn. Well, I've rambled on enough. It's about time to run home, throw on every purple-colored article of clothing that I own and head to the ballgame. Wish us luck!

I’m Tony Jefferson, a relative newcomer to sharing my work with the world. I’ve been writing for about 16 years now.
I feel with each day that i write i get more insight into who i am and as i discover myself, hopefully i can help others express themselves. I love writing, it’s one of my passions, my other being massage.
As i’ve said before i am a soldier currently serving for the second time in Iraq. I will post a few journals about my time over here, hopefully by doing this people will start to understand, if only a little, the life of a soldier in Iraq.

For me Plagiarism is copying one man's work, but copying the works of many is RESEARCH.

My name is Ashley Elizabeth, but I've always gone by "Ashley-Eliz." It was just something my mother called me from a young age, that never seemed to go away.
Though my major has nothing to do with literature (I've fallen into the crack of Biotechnology, and health research) history, languages, and literature were my very first loves that never left my heart. I'm an avid reader, and I'll give practically any book, poem, short story, etc. a chance.
I decided I wanted to join a forum that let me be a geek. :-)
