Definitely cross-country - those site-seeing trains only highlight the tourist attractions which give nothing except admittedly-beautiful site-seeing, but no culture exposure; better to spend lots of time in one place than little time in many places.

Yes!! I fell down some stairs at work and landed face first in full view of the director of logisitcs whom I didn't like.

Yes -- I once had cereal (Honeycomb) & milk with a beer for dinner. It felt kind of weird, but it felt kinda good too.
