Love the Pixies 9/10
I'm starting to like this song, just because of how terrible it is.

Seek professional help, I beg you.
0/10. And that's generous.
Instant allure.
Like Julie London: 8/10.
Another London song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT-ARHa3Yr8
I find the song's premise a bit wierd. 5/10

I missed this the first time around.
It's 'daddy' in the jazz-slang sense of 'wealthy boyfriend' - which never really caught on in Europe but which crops up a lot in this genre. Not that the jazz-slang sense of the word is particularly commendable in feminist terms, but one of the joys of slang is that it doesn't give a flying one about etiquette. I still cannot imagine how they got away with that 'Finnan haddy' line.
On the 'daddy' theme, for a wonderfully inexcusable song which, even at the time, pretty much kicked feminism in the shins, check this out.
But to get back to A-Ha - I hated them when they were in the charts, because they were sold as popstar pretty boys. But every time I hear them now, I think, "That's unexpectedly good stuff." 7/10
At the other end of a writing career, here's a proper grown-up composition with a proper grown-up theme - a song that addresses something other than being twenty-three and horny. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, George.)
I give it a "meh." 6/10
Here's something cool:

Classic

Mother Earth
There are many appalling consequences of The Lord of the Rings for which Tolkien must be held entirely and eternally responsible, but this strain of wizard-sleeved, magic-dusty, potion-poxed, vapid mystic-metal is amongst the most irredeemable. I'll give it 2/10 - just because, if I really try, I can imagine worse.
Whaddaya say? I say, Woof!
Mark, you are the H.L. Mencken of this thread. 10/10 for the barb, 7/10 for the Beatles.

7/10 - Not my cup of tea but still all right.
One of my favorite songs (be gentle, Mark, if you turn up... again :p):

My feeling about the Velvet Underground is that it was a kindergarten that encouraged finger-painting, the results of which should never have been seen by anyone but Lou's mum - but that all that messiness nurtured the moderate talent that eventually produced Berlin, and the much more significant talent that created, amongst other things, this.
That was awful: 3/10 (especially towards the end).

Hi Mark - I see what you mean. Perhaps I shouldn't jump to snap judgements. I am pretty much jazz ignorent. :D
I agree with you about Ah-ha too. I didn't like them at the time as being pretty boy and lightweight.
She's got a good voice. 8/10
Another good vocal.

NO NO NO , a thousand times NO. 0/10.
Here's a good vocal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nLv6_Xhehs

7/10. Don't mind The Be Good Tanyas . They call to mind similar (and in my opinion superior) folk/traditional acts such as this lass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo-xd...eature=related
I like it. 8/10. I also liked the Be Good Tanyas song.
This is the only song Jeff Mangum is known to have written after the Neutral Milk Hotel landmark album, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. Apparently, this is the only time he performed it in public. Be aware that this song is rather bleak and sad.

Well, that was pretty and sad. 8/10.
One time I was driving to Grande Prairie with my dad, brother and friend. This song came on the radio. After it was over, we looked around and noticed that each of us was actually crying. Like, tears literally streaming down our faces. Seriously.

Awww...
Not something I would listen past the first line if I hadn't read your description though

Something happy :)

Nurse - the screens. I appear to have split my sides. 10/10
Ah, that was about the Christmas cat, but Sapphire's already got in there.
As long as there are cruise liners taking toothless old people around the islands, The Baseballs will make a living. 4/10

I've a copy of Mott stored away somewhere. After hearing this track I'm tempted to pull it out. 8/10.

I saw them reform for a farewell last October. It was a weird and rather sobering experience.
I'm not sure what it is I find so unengaging about Radiohead. I really ought to like them. Maybe it's his voice - he always sounds like he's only doing the vocals until they get a real singer. 5/10
From the same era as Mott, but with a very different agenda.
erm, 6/10.
Check out how young they are:

Left to my own devices, I usually seek out a little less twang in my music, but I can certainly appreciate their craftsmanship. 7/10

0/10.

Same here (and I am listening to it as I type! :D)5/10 - Love the music and love the voice but somehow I could not like the song as much as I should. Maybe I should listen to it again (and again).
