Well, the thing is... interesting, to say the least. I remember having heard some critics say that Dustin Hoffman was not only inappropriate and bizarre in this film but that he positively ruined the thing. Said I, "Surely not. The man's not that bad." I fear, however, that they were right. His character is quite possibly the goofiest thing I've encountered in a serious film, and I was quite glad when his role in the film was over. As for the rest, what can one say? A young man goes around killing beautiful young women - apparently thinking absolutely nothing of it - chopping off their hair and boiling their bodies and such in order to extract their "essence" and create perfume.
No, folks, really - it's not a comedy. We are supposed to take this seriously.
The orgy scene is just stupid and totally unnecessary, considering what happens immediately afterward...
Actually, that applies to nearly the whole movie: After seeing the ending, one is left with the feeling of "What the hell did I just spend two hours of my life watching?"
