An Anonymous Man Named Fortescue
there once was a man who rocked
you could tell just by the way he walked
he was bigger than life
and as sharp as a knife
only dull whenever he talked

Oncing
There once
was the word "once"
it didn´t want to dance
it much preferred to bounce.
But it took in a situation
at a glance,
and it tasted of past.
:) Went with bounce...
my old umbrella
my old umbrella
made of green canvas fabric
with one torn panel
it is better than nothing
it bounces when I let go

down the garden path went I
in my best Yoda speak, Darnay, whereby
to an ancestral home I cannot deny
where poets, and poetesses, wrote sometimes awry
then where Agatha and Elizabeth kissed the sky
I detectified and poetisized nigh
I, McGonagall, like a Ferris wheel in July
down the garden path went I
to Fawlty Towers and logic (que?), in rich supply
the answer, the reply, to whom the psalmists ally,
to the ultimate question, forwhy ?
is King Richard, the Petty, whom I decry,
if down the garden path went I

The big rumpus
Little, little Minime
and his sister Tripelte
went to see the octopus
took a big bus.
Stapledoos was on the bus,
and atacked Minime
and her sister Tripelte.
Minime and Tripelte
made a big rumpus,
until big Stpladoos
Flew out of the bus.
And that was the story
of the great rumpus
around Stapledoos
that flew out of the bus
because he atacked
Minime and Tripelte.

Lol!Wonderful! Spoken out of a sleepless soul!
Rather modestly:
Apostrophing sleep
Oh sleep!
Thou that ares´t
The home of the homeless
The food of the hungry for rest
The answer to the questions of the philosopher
And the hiatus of peace of the warrior!
Thou that are called to sing the lullaby equally
To young and old
To poor and rich
To the workers and the loiterers
To man and beast
Who takesd all creatures
under thy protecting cloak
Don´t forsake us!
Not nonsense at all... enjoyed :)

"The Rock
Being a rock
I have the pleasure of lying on the ground.
I only deprive lizards and butterflies.
Certain shells take shelter in me.
Mosses grow from my interstices.
Birds use me to sharpen their beaks.
Sometimes a heron occupies me all day.
I feel praised.
There are other privileges to being a rock:
a—I irritate the silence of insects,
b—I am the beat of moonlight in solitude,
c—In the mornings I bathe in dew.
d—And the sun compliments me first." Translated by Idra Novey’
My attempt:
The pond
I delight
In the state of pond.
Birds visit me.
Clouds bathe at my feet.
Pebbles whisper all the day long,
and the night lends me her blue stared cloak.
"I only deprive lizards and butterflies." - very notable

to gold, to grief, But hold.
Her stay goes. to a leaf's hue
Eden is dawn

My Word Can poem from 9/22/2022:
( chime/initial/flakes/checkered/blaspheme/asleep/while )
Aggrandizing Masters
In grand attire
Cufflinks with intaglio initials
I join my fellows at the boards
While outsiders who would blaspheme Morphy
Of 19th century’s checkered past
Chime in asleep of wit
Would trade a Queen for a pawn
Without the grand sacrifice predicated thereon
If we let them play: Flakes and twits
Kibitzing while the real battles rage on

My trial with the same words
( chime/initial/flakes/checkered/blaspheme/asleep/while )
A rehearsal of peace
The initial chime finds me asleep
while the flakes of snow drop softly, silently.
No room for blaspheming here
No checkered black and white reality;
for one fleeting moment
serenity prevails.
Next chalenge: (moon, phosphorescence, firefly, wardrobe, enduring, bliss, downstairs).
Beautiful poem :) Accept your challenge:
enduring blißfully

downstairs below the moon's gaze

phosphorescent guise -

fireflies enduring in bliß

Fireflies exude
the phosforescence

Downstairs,

Faraway,
the plaintive sounds
of a guitar.
Is there
enduring bliss?

The Yellow Buttercup / A Villanelle
Daphne had stooped to admire a buttercup
It was just so yellow and brilliant
Like an elegant miniature teacup
Daphne drove a blue beater pickup
That drove her faithfully each day to the plant
Daphne had stooped to admire a buttercup
Each day she struggled to keep her spirits up
She tried yoga and focused on a chant
Like an elegant miniature teacup
Others tried to distract her with a new lineup
Said it was time to apply for a grant
Daphne had stooped to admire a buttercup
Daphne decided to consider a backup
Her fiancé becoming more and more scant
Like an elegant miniature teacup
Daphne's new partner was a cutup
Who turned her thoughts hopelessly aslant
Daphne had stooped to admire a buttercup
Like an elegant miniature teacup

Lol! Curious about the end of the story!
The camel and eye of the needle
There once was a camel
Who had a preference for the eyes of a needle
Each time it saw a needle
He had to go though its eye.
But one day
As could be expected,
The camel got stuck.
It was a very thin needle,
It couldn´t resist
And it got stuck.
Soon there was a big crowd around the camel
stuck in the eye of the needle.
Everybody wanted to help or simply watch:
The police came, but there was nothing for it to do
No crime had been committed.
The firemen arrived with much to do,
But much as they threw water on it,
The camel didn´t budge.
The environmental police arrived,
Ready to transport the camel, needle and all,
But the camel didn´t budge.
All the while, reporters kept writing
sending messages
talking on their mobiles
Accessing internet
and making a big bustle.
One of the reporters,
was there with his daughter,
An energetic little girl of five.
While father was bustling around,
she let go of his hand.
Getting near the camel,
she gave it the slightest of pushes,
and the animal was free.
?? I'll leave the context to the reader; my naiveté must be showing. The villanelle was a product of just trying to write a villanelle with no basis in fact - which is why I consider it nonsense.
I chose poor rhyming words (not enough rhyming words to work with) and I may tinker with it some more.
Your updated parable/metaphor/hyperbole of 'the camel through the eye of a needle' is endearing... gives hope to all especially through the context of children :) https://www.biblestudytools.com/topi...with-children/ :)

the dark elves of the forests / golden (acrostic) shovel
if you should desire to explore our hills hearkening
to the call, a wanderlust of spirit, take sore heed to
cling to sanity should anxiety strike your soul - the
headstones will be wanting, just around the corner, as death
imperceptibly stalks your nerves - the dark elves’ watches
nefariously manipulating your tremblings in
gaslighting you subtly to their notorious will - the
situation ends when you paint the devil on the wall

Q - Is it copyright infringement if one uses another poet's words in a scrambled manner ? Anagrams ? Food for thought...
Found this for US copyright:... https://legalbeagle.com/7524772-copy...sing-poem.html See especially "parody" in Fair Use :)Quote:
In copyright law there are laws governing "fair use." This means you may use the poem in a limited way without permission. The problem with this is that the definition of "limited" is not cut and dried. Fair use may apply if you are critiquing the work, or quoting it in scholarly writing, research or technical writing. Educational uses that are not for profit may be allowed as well as parody of the poem.

Thanks for Your copyright research, tailor. Manoel de Barros died some years ago. I think it´s better just to appreciate this great master of nonsensical poetry.
One plus two makes four
Therefore don´t open the door
Open instead a hole in the floor,
take one oar, and rudder until
you are ashore.
Then you don´t have to rhyme
anymore.
