Something like thanking the sun for it's energy, or tying two lover's hands together so that they can be bonded, or throwing a corn dolly into the fire at the end of autumn to signify the end of the growing season and the beginning of winter, or writing letters to people who have wronged you and then burning them to signify that you're past it and it's over now.
