tea keeps me more awake than coffee
It's weird how it's different for people like that. My friend drinks coke to stay awake. Espresso, however, does this to me --->
I dont drink coffee.
I adore coffee, but since I am perpetually short of sleep, I try to only drink it once a week, or unfortunately, I get somewhat cranky.
I also enjoy a cup of tea in the afternoon, either greenteea or cinnamon apple.
Well, I don't drink coffee or tea. My drink of choice in the morning tends to be hot chocolate. Sometimes I take a sip of soda in the morning (preferably Coke), but I prefer to have that cup of hot chocolate. Something about the warmth of it feels good on my throat. The taste is much more pleasing than coffee or tea (for me, at least :)).
Just for the heck of it I bought a package of hot chocolate that said it had as much caffeine as coffee. So I had a cup one morning and about an hour later I was so jittery. My legs wouldn't stop. I finally realized what it was. Well, I had another cup of it a couple of months later and that was later on in the day. I went to bed that night and I couldn't sleep at all! It was one of the most miserable nights of my life. I was so nervous all night long.
Now, I have always thought the caffeine in soda was a myth when it comes to being able to perk somebody up. Honestly, it doesn't do a thing for me. I drink all kinds (mostly Coke and Mountain Dew) and I am never affected. I could drink it before bed and I would be fine. So I was never sure if that was true about coffee, too. Until I had this hot chocolate. If it really has the same amount of caffeine as coffee, then I can't imagine drinking something like that day after day. It would probably turn me into a wild animal! :p
No, I will just stick to my plain hot chocolate in the morning. :)
I often drink a cup of coffee right before I go to bed: no trouble whats however with sleeping. It might have to do with the fact that I drink loads of coffee during the day already... I just really like the taste of it :) Just the normal coffee that is, not too fond of flavoured coffee and definitely not with sugar or milk in it .Quote:

So... I really have no idea how this caffeine thing works... When I try to keep awake I just force myself to do something useful and focus - on long car drives energy drinks do come in handy, but you've got to be careful for after a while the kick is done for.
I stopped drinking coffee because i found my body was depending on it too much. When i stopped drinking it i couldnt get over how tired i was and that made me change my sleeping habits. After a few months i felt such a difference and in truth, because i wasnt on a caffiene fueled energy, pushing myself over my physical boundaries and exhaustion, i wasnt getting as sick as often as i had been.
Oddly now i cant drink it even if i wanted to. :D
Coffee makes me sleepy...:D
I don't like the taste of coffee.
Never been much of a coffee fan myself. I'm a Dr. Pepper addict. Occasionally I'll have a beer or some hot tea.
Actually I think I'm going to go get myself a Dr. Pepper right now :D
How's everyone's day going so far?
This is an outrage. All this coffee bashing in a thread titled "Anyone for coffee?". *shakes head in disbelief*
Nah... it says "anyone for coffee" in the title of the thread. Everybody in here is free to say "no thanks, I'd like some... ".
I myself am a big fan of coffee, but I often notice that when I go out with some girls to "talk over coffee" I am the only one to actually drink coffee  So maybe we should read the title of this thread rather like an invite to sit down with a drink and have a nice chat ;)
Having said that, I offer you:
after reading that, Sapphire, I think I'll go make a pot of coffee.
I put some family members and other people who we are acquainted with on my ignore list today. Maybe I'm in a bad mood, I don't know. It's getting harder and harder for me to keep my mouth shut when people say really hateful or just stupid things. I've about decided that I only like the people here on lit net.
I can not say I ever try to keep my mouth shut when people say hateful things. If they do not hold back, I will not be inclined to do so either - though I would rather say "why" than "well, you yourself *insert insult* ". But keeping quiet, no. Not something I aim for. I can expect that to be a hard thing to do. I guess in my case my face would give me away as much as my mouth when things like that are being said :p
Sorry to hear your family is giving you a hard time. It might be a bit of a big step to totally ignore them, but what do I know - I have no idea what they said or did. Just happy there is internet to interact with people in a different way :)
It's actually my husband's family. They don't say hateful things about me to me. It's about everyone else. I can only guess what they say about me:rolleyes: It is hard to keep my mouth shut, but opening it would not satisfy me or create a change in them.
Ah. That is a nasty situation to get wrapped up in. Especially when you know that opening your mouth will do more harm than good... I can imagine you put yourself into "ignore" modus.
I wish I could have some advice to help you out. I know I do not have such though. So what about another cup of coffee? Ow, and if you feel like ranting about it - do feel free :)
you're so nice. I'll get that coffee now.
You're welcome. I need to run now. Take care and enjoy your coffee :)

Dunno if I'm allowed back in here after my banishment from the blokes thread
But if I am...
I don't like coffee either, at least, not on it's own. A half-and-half coffee and hot chocolate is delicious, or any kind of beverage that includes coffee, just not on its own. Most of the time I just drink a lot of tea.
And going back to the hair topic, I could never get a lot of hair cut off! I've always had long hair and I'm absurdly attached to it. Last week I got my hair trimmed and my layers touched up and my bangs cut. All in all, no more than an inch and a half was taken off in any one place except my bangs and it feels waayy too short. I have agreat respect for Scher and her 30 cm lost
ah! so the prodical sister returns! :p
Dont mind if i do. :D
We'll let you away with it this time ;)
I love coffee, but I'm a snob about it. I can't do just any old pot. Nope, I buy beans that are roasted when I order them, and then I grind them fresh every day:D It's bad enough that my Valentine's day gift was an espresso machine so that now I can make a tasty latte whenever I like which has this uncanny ability to be at 10pm. Does anyone else have the tendency to settle down in the evening with a caffinated drink? Everyone always tends to swear that it keeps them up, but as long as I don't go overboard I don't have an issue.
Wow... I guess I am exactly the opposite: I can drink the lousiest coffee, as long as it is coffee :) However, I have roommates who are a bit more picky about it all and they indeed buy fresh beans and we grind them every day because there just is no regular coffee in the house anymore :eek2: I know - that sounds spoiled. But if we all chip in on it and buy our beans on sale, it proves to be quite affordable :) Just not when you drink as much coffee as I do, so I have my own machine
And no, I don't have an issue with it - ever. What would you call overboard? I easily drink 2 big mugs of coffee after 21h ...
when i drank coffee, oddly enough my fav wa actually a decaf. Bewleys decaf. was so smooth and creamy. cant get it any more. :( good thing i dont drink coffee now as i cant miss it.
Coffee doesn't keep me up as much as tea does
A good "sleepy drink" is warm milk with honey or with anise. Mmmm :D
I think I asked this somewhere, but can't remember where..is there a recipes thread anywhere on this site? I know it's not really literature related... but not everything on here is
yepp! here is an incomplete index ( something else I have to get round to finishing once Ive finished uni. ) and here is the actual main thread
there is also the social group recipe cafe
:D
That is why I think soda doesn't affect me at all. I drink too much of it that I think I may be immune to it. Then again, it never made me hyper as a kid, like people say it does. It never had an affect on me like that. I honestly don't understand the Mountain Dew thing. I don't see how it makes one hyper because, like I said, MD and Coke are my drinks of choice, and I have NO reaction to them at all. It is interesting. :)
I abhor the taste of coffee. I do love a good piece of coffee cake, though! Was the cake actually made with coffee? I find very few that are nowadays, and that is why I think I can tolerate the taste of them. :)
ummm.... coffee cake...
i know i know....
