Overwhelmed maybe, though not really horrified. Babies don't really know what they do, nor does a koala. Adults make far worse mistakes (un)consciously, so why not a young being?

I think I would try to escape. It would be better to get killed while trying to escape, than staying meekly at the risk of being executed by any given whimsical Luger or Mauser. Hmmm... Tom, Dick or Harry would do for me too, so that I would call the least attention possible.
