Hi, I am new and am here looking for assistance with a poem that would have been floating around in the early 20th century. My grandmother, who was born in 1906, and is now deceased, used to tell me this poem and I can't remember it in its entirety. I never knew the name of the author or any other pertinent info. "I've got a dog, his name's Spot. My name's just Jim. He's all I got..the rest's inside of him. One day he catched a chicken that belonged next door to us. Mrs. Smith had a fit, she raised an awful fuss. My Pa said 'That dog must go' and so he did, but 'fore night he come home agin." That is all I remember. It was a really neat old poem. If anyone knows this one please reply to me. Thanks!!
Welcome to all our new members! :)
Spam, for your poem, I do have a book entitled Dog Music - Poetry About Dogs. If I find this poem you refer to, I will post it (or a portion of it, gotta watch the copyright laws), or at least give you a solid lead, in the Poems, Poets, and Poetry portion of LitNet.
Take care everyone. :)
Kiz Paws, Thanks so much!!
I am a 75 year old retiree. living in Tulsa, Ok. I'm a lifer, except for 2 years spent as a Lieutenant in the Army 1954-56 in Munich, Germany. I have been an avid reader since childhood. Politically and socially, I am a flaming liberal, not a common life form in Oklahoma.
Welcome Mikey
Hey everybody! Welcome to the LitNet!
Hello i'm a 20 year old student from New Zealand. I guess i'm here in the hope of finding some like-minded literary buff's, sadly my friends and family aren't big readers.
At the moment I'm re-reading Ulysses, and slowly making my way through Proust.
My favourite books: Ulysses, Blood Meridian, Suttree, C&P, The Brothers K, Notes from Underground, Anna Kaerina, The death of Ivan Illich, Death in Venice, Steppenwolf, To the Lighthouse, Mrs Dalloway, The Trial, The Metamorphosis, The Stranger, The Age of Reason, The Edge of the Alphabet, Intensive Care, The Rainbirds and anything by Nietzsche.
So hello again, I look forward to some interesting discussions.
Hey Dedalus! I'm sure you'll have a great time here on LitNet.
Just floating around... perhaps I'll settle.
Hmmm... Dedalus, you and I have very similar tastes. Perchance we shall collide on a post or two.
I will add some Eastern Europeans to my list of good reading, particularly the Hungarian György Konrád and the Czech Ivan Klíma.
Hi, just joined... Not much to say really apart from that I study English Literature and i'm intrested in sports quite intensly. (That doesn't include football though). I also write a bit of poetry now and again, but I don't think I'm very good at that. Well that its really. Just popped in because I got a little message as I registered telling me to do so. :)
Hi all,
Just thought I should pop by and say hi, and tell you all a bit bout myself.
I'm from Australia...I "kill time" by writing short stories (I don't like to write poems very much, though I'm often told I'm good at it), and playing my guitar...My favourite authors include Matthew Reilly, James Patterson, Nora Roberts, Patricia Cornwell, Janet Evanovich, and many more....My favourite singers include Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Chris LeDoux, Jimmy Mattingly (OK, so he's a fiddler, not a singer, but he's still totally awesome by my book!), Pink, AC/DC, The Eagles, Tim McGraw, and many more. As you can see, I definitely like country music, though I also like a bit of pop or rock (preferably the older stuff).....I hope someday to be an author myself, or a singer....I absolutely love going to Vocal Group at school, because of my awesome friends (some of whom I actually would never have met if it weren't for VG!), and the two conductors who pull us all together and make us sound as good as we do....Ummm I guess that's all I can say right now....I'll post some of my work in the forums from time to time, when I can get away from my homework and chores.
Bye!!
Welcome, Zybahn, RPMI, and Marilee. Looking forward to seeing you all around the LitNet forums. :)
Hi everyone,
I stumbled on this forum this afternoon and it look very interesting so i decided to join. I work in a financial institution but my passion is writing. I have written two books - both published and I hope to write many more.
I think I'll have a great time here.
Hi everybody,
I'm new here. Well, what can I say, I'm a free spirit looking in all directions to find new stimulating inspiring resources to enrich my life.
I'm a designer, an apprentice of visual arts since I was born 36 years ago.
Actually I cannot tell I'm a good reader, but, I certainly have a few favorite books:
"Journey to the West" by Wu Ch'eng'en (I've already posted a link in the proper thread)
"Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse
"Jonathan Livingston Seagull" by Richard Bach
to mention some. Relax and enjoy!
Hello, my name is Lezlie! I am currently trying to read all the books listed on the College Bound Reading List Compiled by Arrowhead Library System, which I found on the internet. I started like three weeks ago, so I still have a long way to go, but I'm pretty excited about it. I'm a total book nerd LOL
Hello all! Welcome to LitNet! :)
Hello everyone!!
I got registered about two years or so ago but never posted or said hello. So well, hello and I am Hira and well, thats about it, I suppose.
so this is my introduction. My name is lady_pirate and this is my first time on litnet. I have yet to post anything, but will after this formal introduction. I write poetry and also read it along with short stories and novels. I love to have feedback on my work, as I am sure most people do, but I also love to give feedback. I'm not into bashing what people write and don't expect the same treatment; though, I'm not easily offended by it. I respect an honest opinion and would never take someone's point of view away from them just because I may not agree. Looking foward to reading other's work and hope that you think the same of mine...
Welcome Lady Pirate. I'm sure you'll get some feedback. Join in the discussion. We'd love to hear what you have to say. :)
lady pirate, I am supremely happy to see you here. You'll love it I promise you. Though, if you think my bookishness is odd, wait till you see the splendid nuttiness around here!
