I though that was funny. those two are great.

Hide And Seek.6/10
I just finished Mean Streets. I made the mistake of watching 30 minutes of it at a time (my wife and I are trying to save money, so she doesn't know I have it. I was only able to watch it, when I had the house free. I've been watching it for the last month). Scorsese's films have a lot of intensity. I eould hae enjoyed the movie more, had I not lost the momentum. I give it 6/10.
With De Niro and Fanning?
I watched a couple of movies this week. The first one was The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, which is a movie I've been wanting to see since it came out and I finally got to it. This was a great movie, I love the touch of the surreal that always comes with Wes Anderson movies, granted, it's a heavier touch in this one but that makes it all the more charming.
Then I watched Secretary. It was a movie I was curious about because I had heard a lot about it and I added it to my netflix queue when I joined but while curious, I didn't have a driving need to see it so it was always getting pushed down the queue in favor of other movies and yet again, I moved it down a peg so I could put Stalker at the front but Stalker was unavailable so Secretary came instead. It was an odd movie...I have decided to look at it from a less literal view. I'm trying to overlook the S&M theme and think of it more symbolically, that we all have our scars, emotional of course, and we all have our little quirks and idiosyncrasies but that doesn't mean we can't find love. When you look at it that way, it's a downright lovely movie.
Deja vu (2006) director Tony Scott
Weird back-in-time plot with guy preventing people from dying, getting rid of the bad guy, falling in love, living happily ever after. At least it made sense and was entertaining enough...
6/10
Layer cake (2004) director Matthew Vaughn
This is based on J.J. Connolly's book Layer cake and surprisingly enough it followed the book's plot throuthfully for the most part. Until the end, which was quite drastically changed. Preferred the book, as usual.
6/10
I watched The Departed with great expectations and I was disappointed as well. There was all this hype and then it was just an average movie. Leonardo Di Caprio was in it - that made it worth seeing as long as you had the volume turned down and could fast forward to the scenes he was in.
Where did Adol09 go? Did he ditch us?
Too bad.
i watched the Oh in Ohio. Very cute. i reallyh like Parker Posey. Hard to believe Danny DeVito would have been her "provider" though. i'd give it 3 out of 4 for playfulness.
"My favorite season" by Andre Techine. 7/10
I am watching episodes of the "Firefly" series lately..the best sci-fi series i have seen in ages.
Fun with Dick and Jane - the trailers for this looked good but I just can't warm up to that Jim Carrey. I just heard that this was a remake I may try to catch the original those are usually better. 2.5/5
Shaun of the Dead - Some funny parts, pretty entertaining. Not much of a plot but it wasn't really needed anyways. 3.5/5
Korean horror movie called The Host.....
interesting creature....hard to describe...strange plot/story
6 of 10...although I did like the special effects
Does it say something new? No.
Is it entertaining? Yes!
I enjoyed, if for nothing more than a lot of laughs.
Watching the original and then Scorsese's film, one observes right away Martin's talent as a director. He handles the dramatic sequences with tension and not sentimentality, which enjoy.
I think Scorsese's reign ended with The King of Comedy. Goodfellas, Goodfellas. Good film, but I like the older stuff. I think his best work was Ragging Bull. Scorsese was at his best with Schrader.
Tru Confessions 5/10
Ijazzat (Hindi) (meaning permission) -- 9/10
A movie about three people in a relation. The characters and story line is very good. Very well played by some of Indian cinema's finest actors Naseer-ud-din and Rekha.
Man of the Year by Barry Levinson.
Shows what can happen when a country, uh, like the USA,
trusts technology in the elective process.
Although a gentle film, his unique "Kundun" should be on the major-achievement list.
I watched 3 movies this weekend, on Friday, I watched Serenity yet again. They released a new collector's edition of the movie this week with added features and commentaries so I had to buy it...yes, I had to! :p ;) As always, a fabulous movie. :thumbs_up
The next night, I completely switched gears and watched Andrei Rublev. It was quite the epic, 3 and a half hours long. I had some issues with the timeline, there were times when I was really confused about what was happening when but I really have grown fond of Tarkovsky. I like his sweeping camera angles, I love how simplistic and natural his sets are and the acting was superb. Next on my Tarkovsky list is Stalker but it's never in stock when they're sending out my movies.
This afternoon, I saw Hillary and Jackie starring Emily Watson. I really like her, I think I would enjoy almost anything she was in.
I know there is a movie thread but I don't have time to go back and read the whole thing. Has anyone seen this wonderful little film, Once?
Amelie oh the beauty of a non-Hollywood movie. A wonderful film - everyone should see it.
Oddly enough, Martin Scorsese must know quality when he sees it. He is crazy over the film "The Red Shoes" and it is not a bloody hoodlum film at all, it is one of my favorite films - really wonderfully done by two British directors, Powell and Pressburger. It is sensitive and complex. For heavn's sake, it is about a ballet dancer and her presario, based on the fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson. Scorsese does the commentary on the DVD and shows his extensive collection of the film memorabilia, raving about his love for the film. I have seen the film a zillion times. So I can never fathom Scorsese's other apparent fascination with the mob/bloodbath films. The man sure is an enigma. Maybe it is the box office/public demands that drives him to make films like "The Departed".
I have no desire to see "The Departed" - although one of my librarians said it was a great film - no matter - being a librarian does not give one good taste.
Everyone who said the film is a bloodbath on Lit Net turned me off to the film. I agree with this reviewer although I have not seen it. I have seen others by him that were very bloody.
I heard of the film "Kundun" and I hope to check that one out someday, more to my liking and taste I am sure. Thanks for mentioning it, byquist.
well i watched a few movies over the weekend. Orange county, A life less ordinary, and Jane Eyre. (an odd combination but ah well!)
i havent seen it but i really want to. The lead singer of one of my favourite bands is in it. I heard its very good!
Babel. What a sincerely odd movie. I wanted to see it because it has Cate Blanchett in it and I think won best score at the Oscars but what a queer film.
i just watched the ITV drama versions of Mansfield Park (one with billie Piper) and Persuason (one with Rupert Penry-Jones)
"Black Adder" series all over again 10/10
It is so hillarious and makes my day ;)
Black Adder's great. Have you seen the Fawlty Towers series? It's my favorite BBC show.
I've been watching some oldies, The Third Man and Laura.
I just watched Sherry Baby with Maggie Gyllenhal and Ingmar Bergman's The Passion of Anna. Both were very good. This was the first Bergman film I've seen, and I can see why he is hailed as a genius. This movie seemed avant garde to me even though it was made years ago.
There are so many Bergman masterpieces, the most avant garde of his films is Persona, though. You should check out The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, Hour of the Wolf...
Basil. Basil. Basil. :D
Nah, it's about the art of bringing a smile on people's lips, here on wikipedia there is something about it! :)
Thanx Pensive :)
I just finished watching American Beauty for the 20th time probably. And i may have even written up a little review on it here too but I am too lazy to look so I will just post again. I love this movie.
It's too bad it ended where it did. There are so many unanswered questions - like do Jane and Ricky ever run away together? Is the shooter ever caught/charged?? And what becomes of Carolyn? Does she spend the rest of her days in agony because her husband died the day he found out she was cheating on him?
I wish they had left a hint or something.
you should check out the band The Frames. The lead singer Glen Hansard is the guy in the movie. Their albums Dance the Devil and For the Birds are by far their best. This band is very famous in Ireland and can fill up the same type of venue as the Foo Fighters!
I LOVE Blackadder! Baldric Rules!
"I have a cunning plan, My Lord!"
Hey. Check out "The Germans" episode.
