I would be equally inept in either and have never had the privilege, even in my brief boy scout years, to try one... Tragic in the sense that the American River(s) and others are so accessible here. I have an odd tendency to calling kayaks "yackety-yak's".
Bus or train ?
-
there must be some place nearby then tailor where you can rent one or the other for pretty cheap. although neither require a lot of skill or any experience to enjoy yourself, id suggest a canoe as a first go.
for a large handful of miles in a large city where the subway isn't an option, the bus is okay. but for long distances, the train for sure. ive taken some trains in Europe but never partook of the famed "euro-rail" pass that if I remember rightly, pretty much allowed unlimited miles on for a limited amount of time.
having to watch a half dozen zombie musicals or giving up Roquefort blue cheese dressing for 6 months?
-
Plenty of places to rent, I'm sure... maybe a rafting excursion in the future on the American River... who knows. Never been on a subway in the NY sense... closest, I guess, would be the BART system in the SF Bay Area which I loved using... especially on day jaunts to SF that went under the SF Bay, and to El Cerrito Del Norte for bowling at a favorite venue of mine that also had a fine restaurant for a steak dinner with salad including garbanzo beans :)
lol... I do not like zombies, Sam I am, neither here nor there, nor in the ęther, nor anywhere. I don't like them in a soup, I don't like them in a chicken coop, zombies to me tain't any fun, in the dark or in the sun... I do not like zombies, Sam I am, so guess I'd have to do without my Roquefort for a time (mic drop)... slam!
Watched "Searching for Bobby Fisher" early this morning on free Pluto streaming telly station and was impressed with Ben Kingsley's character... which has almost nothing to do with this question: Gandhi or Mother Teresa ?
-
oh go this summer tailor. the older one gets, the less likely such wonderful things happen.
its been a long time since ive been to the city. hard to imagine going back, and maybe all the more so hard to imagine taking the subway. both have certainly deteriorated over the years.
I tried reading pride and prejudice and zombies some years ago but really couldn't get into it. however, I recently saw the movie preview and it looked lots better than my experience with the book, so I think i'll be watching that in the not too distant future.
that's a fun question, maybe the tension between changing the world, and changing my little corner of the world. slight edge to mother Teresa. ive got biographies of both, maybe i'll read one after I finish elvis Presley.
having to watch the princess bride and read watership down or giving up anything avocado for a month?
-
(watching the princess bride AND reading watership down) OR (giving up anything avocado for a month)... hmmm, classic double bind argument (hate those... drive me nuts)... at least the avocado is only for a month, prolly gone longer... so avocado.
Skipping rocks on a body of water or putting a penny on the railroad tracks ?
-
heck tailor, don't know how I missed this so many month ago...
both are fun, but the rock skipping is more enjoyable.
a book written in the 1st person or one written in the 3rd?
-
Prolly first... three's a crowd
Salad: Spinach or Lettuce(s)
-
I like spinach, and i constantly try to grow it and mostly fail, but I like the crispy texture of lettuce better as the base for salads.
jadzia dax or ezri dax?
-
I prolly will continue to vacillate on this choice:
• Intellectually Ezri is the most experienced, having Jadzia's "experiences", et al, plus her own.
• Jadzia was the original cast in DS9 and thus it's difficult to overcome the attachment to an original character, especially over several episodes/seasons
• Ezri more the diplomat perhaps
• Jadzia more sure of herself
This round goes to Jadzia
Buckaroo Banzai or Doc Brown ?
-
that was a good comparison list tailor. I was bummed when jadzia left and ive been debating the writers choices on making ezri so unsure of herself. I absolutely love though what the writers can do in their stories with a joined trill.
oddly enough, I dont think ive seen all of any of the back to the future movies but Christopher Lloyd is a hoot, so I feel okay going with him.
darth vadar or thanos?
-
Thanos is a much better (super) villain... yesterday I found a list of the most powerful MCU universe beings and I was surprised at how low he ranked: https://www.bustle.com/entertainment...vel-characters, albeit much higher in other lists. Vader might have been better if he were not redeemed IMHO.
Basheer or Quark ?
-
besides vader's redemption, what was it about thanos that makes you rate him higher?
that's a toughie. one of the fun things about star trek in general and maybe DS9 in particular is the exposure to difference species and stories associated with them. the ferengi are fascinating and I think the show did a good job of occasional ventures into them and their culture. quark was a good character.
but then so was dr bashir, and I really liked him. and since he was in star fleet and was able to be worked into the stories better, I gotta go with him. im nearing the end of the series and im wondering if he and ezri are going to get connected. she was just about to tell him she loved him but he was distracted by his work trying to find a cure for odo that he missed it and she didn't get a chance to explain.
I know to an extent it depends on the movie, but in so much as you can---movies under 2 hours or movies over 2 hours?
-
Perhaps because Thanos answered to no one but himself... Vader, after all, as a Sith was a toady for the Emperor.
2-hours+ is ok... I like to get my bang for the buck with my senior discount/cheap Tuesday when I pay for my expensive popcorn and then recline in decadence shutting out the world maybe once or twice a year.
Trains, planes, or automobiles ?
-
boy I haven't been to the theater in years, ~2005.
that's sounds nice, except for the expensive popcorn part.
I think you've asked that one before, and im wondering now about my internal consistency! I don't think you could pay me enough to get on an airplane, which is unfortunate, because there are a couple of places in Europe id like to go to/go back to.
id rather ride a bike than drive a car.
and trains can have a certain appeal to them, so lets go with them.
hah---steve martin or john candy?
-
Stevo... plays a better banjo
Ten speed or Mountain Bike ?
-
have you seen roxanne tailor? i loved steve martin in that.
i used to train and race a long time ago, and i still love speed, but most of my outdoor riding these days falls along the lines of commuting, sometimes in bad weather, and a mtn bike or something similar is a bit more suitable.
chick flick or chick lit?
-
re: Roxanne... no
chick flick
Bolo tie or necktie ?
-
oh its a reallllllly cute romantic comedy well worth watching, a modern day retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac. steve martin place an excellent role.
I think you have asked that one before and hopefully im consistent---no ties for me but if someone forces me, id have to go with the traditional necktie---unless maybe I was magically transported to the southwest.
chocolate or peanut m&m's?
-
Chick flick, right ? Nah... the premise eludes me; a little Steve Martin goes a long way.
Hmmm, I think I've seen this question before too... go with plain m&m's this time.
"Serenity" or the original ST "Enterprise" (Kirk version) ?
-
-
• NCC-1701-A
• NCC-1701
• NCC-1701-D's Holodeck w/ NCC-1701' bridge :)
Milky Way... never been to the KitKat galaxy...
Ok... Red Dwarf or The Orville or Serenity then ?
-
I love family guy so I clearly like seth MacFarlane's sense of humor but oddly enough, ive never seen an episode of the orville. nevertheless, lets go with that one because of my love of family guy
snickers or three musketeers?
ps: im predicting you will want to make a pun about d'artagnan!
-
(snicker)
Snickers for me, though I'd prolly not turn down a floppy hat with a feather to wear while gallivanting about in France.
Red Vines or Twizzlers ?
-
if i could transport myself as opposed to having to fly, or take a boat, france is a place id want to go back to visit.
i think marketing wise, we don't even have red vines here, so i'll go with the twizzlers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfPavb-A9kY
mounds/almond joy or butterfinger?
-
vid: lol
mmmmmmmm... butterfinger this time
salting your watermelon or no ?
-
ive enjoyed salt on apples before but haven't ever tried it on watermelon. if I splurge on one this summer, I can give it a shot.
peppermint patty or twix? (not the Charlie brown character!)
-
peppermint patty hands down
egg plant or artichoke ?
-
I like both of those but ive enjoyed eggplant parmigiana in the past and that's a pretty good treat, so we'll go with that one. ive tried to grow eggplant in my garden but never succeeded.
Hershey bar or nestles crunch?
-
Hershey Bar :) I drove through a town on my way to Monterey that was famous for a Hershey plant... missed it by a block or two while on J14 - https://www.kqed.org/news/11089642/b...eys-in-oakdale . Never got to visit the plant in the past with all my trips through town... even stopped nearby overnight at a park on my way to Yosemite by 10-speed bike from Newark, California, circa 1970.
Donuts or Danishes ?
-
ive been through Hershey PA, and in fulton NY there is a (or was, I don't know) a nestle factory. the whole town smells like a fudge brownie. my nearby home city has a bread factory in it. the smell is soooo good its a wonder you don't gain weight from it.
those are both great but the variety amongst donuts puts the nod towards them.
baby ruth or payday?
-
payday
Ritz or Hi Ho crackers ?
-
i have a vague memory of hi ho, but I don't remember them being any different from ritz, which we still have around here. I just bought a couple of boxes on clearance recently. so "putting on the ritz" it is!
heath bar or reese's peanut butter cup?
-
heath bar
chick peas or chia seeds
-
a surprise upset by the heath bar!
I love chick peas, made all the more fun by calling them garbanzo beans!
m&m's or milky way?
-
Yeah, I call them garbanzo beans too, but chick peas was more poetic :) If you ever get back to the 1970's exit the El Cerrito Del Norte's BART station in Cali and have a steak dinner at the bowling alley restaurant, Rods Hickory Pit, nearby... their salad came with garbanzo beans... great dinner :) Evidentially the city used eminent domain to demolished this hallowed establishment and other businesses for a Target store... too sad.
m&m's
Janis or Stevie ?
-
that would kinda make a fun element in a movie tailor---traveling back in time to various presently non-existent places in order to revisit the foods/dishes you love.
if you mean stevie nicks, id go with her, although I do like Janis joplins rough voice. rumours is one of my all-time favorite albums and a couple of stevie nicks songs still cause emotional reactions in me.
snickers or butterfinger?
-
snickers hands down
Kansas or Boston ? (open to interpretation)
-
two of the biggies from my high school/early college days, loved 'em both, but I think the phenomenon that was the first boston album puts them over the top here.
peppermint patty or Hershey bar?
-
Tough one... Peppermint Patty this round (sic)
Casey Kasem or Dick Clark ?
-
have you ever had a wintergreen patty? has been years since ive even seen those.
grew up really liking them both, but "America's top 40" was a bit more enjoyable than "American bandstand" so kasem it is.
payday or heath bar?
