I watched C.I.D yesterday. An old Indian movie. I liked it because the plot wasn't bad (the theme was a little bit different), the acting was quite good, and all the songs were splendid! I would rate it 9/10.
Believe it or not, I finally saw the Harry Potter series. I had never seen any of them and a co-worker has been "strongly" encouraging me to see them. She loves them, and has purchased all the DVDs, so far.
So I spent a weekend playing catch up. As to a ranking, I thought they were entertaining. Would give them a 8 out of 10. Not really my type of movie, but I did find it pleasantly surprising.
Aside from that I watched The Illusionist, which I loved and would give "Two enthusiastic thumbs up!":thumbs_up :thumbs_up

What a suprise! An existential gem. Stephen King doesn't always play well on the big screen, but this does. There are still a few coventions, but I got more because I expected less. Mikael Håfström and John Cusack makes the material work. See it with friends.

My review :12 Angry Men does not obfuscate its theme with superficial clash-and-bang, chill instilling spoofs which leave viewers tremulous after the feature like sweet chocs leave children appeased yet inevitably desirous of more. No other film of it's classical era and genre may best serve to enlighten, entertain and stupefy you than this internationally loved and strongly enduring saga of courage, recalcitrance and what it means to indulge a reasonable doubt in a situation of life and death.
Ugly as in I don't need to see sex or childbirth process. It was really embarrassing to see it with my mom. We both thought it was PG-13 therefore devoid of anything emotionally scarring...beware of CROWNING!Quote:

Fantasic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer 9/10 It would get a 10/10 except for two things: Galactus is not portrayed exactly right, and it's ambiguious about what the Surfer's punishment for defying him is. (In the comics since he decides to help save the Earth, Galactus binds him to the planet, he can no longer surf space. He still has all that power, however, enough to take out anyone, even the Hulk.)

1. The Importance of Being Earnest

To be clear from the outset, my opinion of this film will inevitably be influenced by the fact that I've so far not been terribly impressed with Oscar Wilde - probably largely owing to my distaste for satire in general. The movie clocks in at 94 minutes, and I cannot say the brevity bothers me. It's a clever story, in its way, but it's never felt very substantial to me. Colin Firth does a decent job as John Worthing - apparently the only intelligent character in the thing. I know the audience-sympathy strictly for Worthing is part of the play and all, and that the supporting characters are supposed to feel like plastic (or I at any rate sincerely hope, for the sake of this film, that this is intentional), but I have to say I got pretty annoyed when it seemed that Worthing was the only one who ever actually meant what he was saying - save perhaps for Judi Dench's character: stupid as she was, she seemed to have real conviction, which was probably the most comical thing about the movie. It's just not really all that fun to watch; some of the dialogue is rather funny, but this film - indeed, the play - really does not require the use of one's brain, save to keep up with the ridiculous name-switchings and other plot-related things. In light of my aforementioned prejudice, however, I will try not to be too hard on the film. I will say for it that it succeeded in giving me a very similar impression to that given by the play - which one may or may not consider a good thing. A decent adaptation.
7/10 (with perhaps an additional half, because Frances O'Connor is really hot in this movie...)

This is the first film I've seen by this guy - who I guess is actually quite well-known elsewhere (native Poland and so forth). I was very impressed with this thing. It actually lasts roughly as long as "Earnest" but, though I might have liked it to go on a little more (for such was the joy I experienced viewing this), the length is exactly what it needs to be. It's about a period in the life of a woman (please don't misinterpret that :( ) after her composer husband and their daughter die in a car accident, as she and an associate of her husband set to work on finishing the latter's unfinished final piece. As I cannot comprehensively opine the interest in this film, I will simply enumerate a few things and rate it: the cinematography is bloody gorgeous! There is, as you might well infer, a good deal of the color blue in this movie, and it is a very deep, pretty blue.:) Also, Juliette Binoche is extremely impressive as the widow in question. There is not a terribly large amount of dialogue in the film, but she communicates very well. The music is really cool as well (for those into classical music). Unlike the above, this film most certainly requires thought, which is always fun. It's the first in Kieslowski's Trois Couleurs trilogy, the other two of which (Blanch and Rouge) I will have to see now. *gives thanks for Netflix*
I want to talk more about this thing, but I dread giving anything away. I insist - watch it!

Evan Almighty - if you've seen the commercials for this movie, you've seen all the best parts. No surprises. Save your money and see it when it comes out on cable.
5/10 (4 of the 5 are for the special effects and in acknowledgment of the fact that they used real animals wherever they could instead of CGI)
The Hitcher. Well the new one anyway. I would have to give it 7/10. I was pleasantly surprised by the movie and though it was pretty good. I would watch it again, but not too likely to buy it.
That film was hilarious.. You can't watch it for the horror because it doesn't have any and the cheesy lines are just an uproar. I love the fact that there is mild profanity (unlike the pervasive f-word lines omnipresent in rudimentary cheap horror thrillers like the Saw trilogy) and that each actor is so miscast that one can't help but giggle like a cluster of sorrority girls in a room after a late-night dance.Quote:

Fracture. Pretty good, interesting court drama. Points off because the protagonist's quasi-girlfriend was just not that attractive, lol.

Miss Potter -- very well-acted. If you don't expect too much, you will find this a very fine film. Zellweger does an excellent job.

I would give it a 7/10 for the idea and all, but it gets 6/10 because, overall, it's a bit... dunno... cheap-looking...? Kind of slow. But overall, I liked it.

Meh, the theatre has air conditioning. So that was fun. I don't know, that type of movie isn't really my thing, the man wanted to see it...although we both thought it was kind of corny. Did I mention the theatre has air conditioning? 5/10

The last movie I saw for the first time was Collateral..and I LOVED it!
I normaly don't like Tom Cruise's acting..but he was brilliant in this movie. I'd strongly recommend it.
Evan Almighty- 5/5- I really liked the overrall message presented in the movie, and Steve Carrell is just hilarious. It was so funny. OMG, his beard!!! Especially when it is all braided...I cried...it was so funny. Or at least I thought it was!
Watched Stanley Cubric's The Shining just know, and I really liked it. Maybe I should have watched it at night, but I found it creepily (is that even a word?) hilarious. The faces that Jack makes, lol. I took one point of for all the screeching music that was very annoying, and another since the movie is mostly senseless. 8/10
TRANSFORMERS (More than meets the eye :)) LOL sorry I can't say the word "transformers" without singing part of the opening theme from long ago....
anyway....it was ok...not a great storyline...but come on, it's a movie about robots turning into cars, jets, etc....I went to watch it to see the transformers and be transported back to my childhood...who cares what the plot was about! LOL
Recently saw -- Menace II Society starring Larenz Tate. 9/10
Review: It is rare to see a film which can appeal to unanticipated viewers with slices of unremitting brutality, bitterness and a sliver of truth. As a young resident in a society which pervasively corrupts itself and renders hope an unattainable aspiration like Providence to an atheist I found many aspects of the film which I could connect with and fathom. The actors contributed well to the realism of their characters and made me feel spontaneously empathetic. Such performances are rare to see because viewers nearly always feel obliged to sympathize with deceased characters rather than associate with their partings on a mutual level. The tone of the film is genuine yet surprisingly covert because its toll of foul language and grisly violence does much to enlighten a rational audience that something, if anything, must be done to curve the ideology in the ghetto that corruption is the ultimate gateway to success in a society which offers little else for a conventional breakthrough. It tells us of a problem at stake spreading like a virus through the next generation of a young and dynamic group of ghetto Negroes, and leaves us to individualistically figure a palliative.

Dangerous Beauty 3/10
Ugh, where do I start with this one...
I hated this movie, O.K, let me just start there. Hated this movie, and I have a lot to say about it. Right off the bat, with the very first shot and first line of dialouge, I knew this was going to be a chick flick. But, I'm the kind of person that usually tries to give something a fair chance. I knew what this movie would be, but I had to give it a fair chance. But I hated it. I will give multiple reasons.
1) Incredibly predictible. I knew pretty much where the movie was going, how it was going to get there, and where it would end up at all times. You surely cannot accuse this movie of keeping you guessing.
2) Incredibly cliche. This movie defines the word cliche.
3) The dialouge was so heavy-handed, it was ridculous. There aren't many movie where I actually roll my eyes or turn my back to the screen in disgust. This was one of them.
4) And this is most important; it was INCREDIBELY unbelievable. There is no way this would happen. Now, often times, I have had arguments with friends where I say that about a movie and they say, "you know it was based on a true story, right?" When somebody says that, it makes me want to punch them. Let me ask a question to anyone who has ever said that; do you know anything about Hollywood? They take these "true stories" and twist, exagerrate and change the facts so that the finished product almost inevitably fails to portray the actual events. I won't spoil the ending for those who haven't seen it and want to, so all I will say is this. Anyone who has read, or knows, anything about the Inquisition knows that it did not, would not and COULD not have happened that way. It just couldn't have and suspension of disbelief became impossible for me. Finding myself disgusted with the highly improbable, nay, impossible ending, I decided to look Veronica Franco up myself (potential spoilers ahead). Yeah, I found NO evidence whatsoever of things happening the way they were portrayed in the movie. In fact, the real Veronica Franico was left poor, destitute and publicly humilated upon her succesful defense of herself before the Inquisition. It is said she died a penniless outcast. Of course, the mindless masses wouldn't tolerate an ending like that, so it had to be Hollywooded up. And thus, I hated this movie.

Ghost Rider 7/10. Good, but not really great. I enjoyed it, but my husband fell asleep so... I like most of the comic books made into movies, though.
Last movie i saw was "Identification of a Woman" by Michelangelo Antonioni. As always, i find his movies extremely interesting and thought provoking. 7/10 (having seen the rest of his movies like "La Notte", "The eclipse" , "Red desert", "The cry" which are rated 9/10 and 10/10, the comparison is inevitable. This is by no means a mediocre movie but it is lesser than the rest).
Has anyone seen Freedom Writers? I highly recommend it. Hillary Swank is exceptional.
I'm having a lot of fun reading these movie posts. White Noise made me think of a movie that both my wife and absolutely are crazy for...Frequency with Dennis Quaid and Jim Kavizel. I rate it 11/10. It is entertaining, well done and makes you feel good.
If we see 2 minutes of it we are in for the duration.
