- Man walks on the Moon... and Neil Armstrong misstates his lines and turns a profound statement into mush. Instead of the thoughtful, "That's one step for a man; one giant leap for Mankind," he bungled out, "That's one small step for Man; one giant leap for Mankind."
(not his fault -- it was lost transmission)
- Disco era officially begins. Darn.
I graduated from High School with a 3.2 GPA and a 99th percentile on the ACT -- neither of which was sufficient to get me into college. On the plus side, my number in the Selective Services lottery was 319, saving me from the draft and Vietman. And now you know more about me than my wife feels comfortable with revealing, so I'll probably sleep on the sofa tonight.
- Clifford Irving admits to a New York court that he had fabricated Howard Hughes
--the year Gwen Stacy died and Spider-man changed forever. Plus the first time I got out the Air Force but not the last.
....................
I undergo surgery to rebuild my left ankle, shattered by a three-story-fall the year before and set wrong by the doctors. They tell me I will never walk without a limp, and will probably never run again. The very next year, I almost break a school record for fastest time in the 600 yard run. I ran two miles every evening, and five on Saturday for the next several years and played basketball with guys half my age right up until my nervous breakdown. So doctors don't know everything. My left leg is a bit shorter than my right, but at 300+ pounds I still can move surprisingly fast!

The Millenium -- and the Millenium Bug -- approaches.... All computers will fail, one year from now. Electric plants will go offline because they'll think it will be 1900 and they won't have been built yet. When the power fails, airplanes will crash, bank vaults will open, stock markets will plummet, and the world's economies will tumble one after the next like dominos. Chaos will reign supreme and civilization as we know it will vanish overnight! Religious Sects everywhere predict that this will all be the fulfillment of prophecy and that it means that Jesus will return and the True Millenium will begin.
Wasn't 1999 a fun year? Wow, what happy memories!
- Nothing happens. Prince wakes up from his hangover.
